Can anyone identify and give me some more info on these speakers, just picked them up at a garage sale.
Back tag is hard to make out. I think it says Model: HWL.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am curious what you pad for these bad dadies.

Me too! I've seen what they have gone for on ebay and it's nothing to sneeze at!

Those are original Heresies, late 70's/early 80's. Need serials to date more precisely, though.

Nice garage-sale catch! I had a pair of those for a couple years....

They are very sensitive to the gear you mate with them. The wrong thing and you will not like what you hear but if you get it right it should be wonderful.

$50

Scratches and scuffs, not anything real bad. Cabinets are solid, sharp corners.
Need a good cleaning.
I’ll probably hook them up tomorrow and see what they sound like.

Ad stated “High end electronics”, I was like “Yeah right”, checked it out anyway and liked to crap myself when I walked up and saw the $50 sticker.

Not real Knowledgeable about these speakers, but have seen some discussion about them here and there, thought I’d better snatch them up.

You could take those over to the klipsch forum and sell them for QUITE a bit more than that, easily. They have some Heresy freaks over there. Good buy. If you decide not to keep them I'll pay you a fair profit. I'd like to see how they'd sound on tubes, which they were designed to driven by in the first place. You can keep all the Klipsch speakers, if I have to listen to them driven by SS power.

I've seen Heresy's in non-working condition hit almost $500 on eBay. There is a set there currently at $350 with no working tweeters.

They'll fetch $400 easy, maybe more depending on whose fighting for them. The myth you need to run Klipsch on tubes, is that, a myth. I've had two pairs of Heresy's, just picked up my third the other day.

I used to run them on a Mitsubishi preamp and dual mono solid state amp. They're GREAT. The Electrovoice T-35 tweeter in those is the same as the one in the big K-horn.

You might like Klipsch on SS gear, but I don't like their horns on ss gear. I didn't say that they HAD to be ran on tubes, just that when they were designed, there wasn't any ss gear. I know ALOT of people that like their Klipsch on their ss gear and I'm happy for them, it's just not my cup of tea. I have heard the KHorns and LaScalas on tubes and thought alot better of their sound, so much so that I even have thought about getting a pair of Heritage series Klipsch for the ASLs. :)

Noel is right on, having just recently sold a pair of K-horns,they respond much better being driven by tube amplification than solid state, and they don't need alot of power,as they are fairly efficient ;)

Excellent snag man, I was feeling great about my pair of Monitor 10(actually "Model 10") that I picked up for 80 today. But you win by a long shot!

Could be Heresy III from the cabinet design. www.klipsch.com will give you the info. With the Heresy III having just been released by Klipsch 2 weeks before this post, that would have been unlikely.

Serial numbers 42R084 and 42R085 were manufactured in 1977.

HWL = Heresy Walnut Laquer is correct.
