I've been on the net since there was a net, and one thing I've learned about forums:
Speak to and treat people as you would if they were in your home.
We tend to be alot more polite, respectful and forgiving in-person than we are over the www. Why is that? Have you ever had a "road-rage" moment only to find it was somebody you knew that you were raging at? I have, and felt pretty stupid about it...
Think about it. Just my .02 cents.

The biggest problem is that nobody can get their ass whipped on a forum so you get a lot of keyboard commandos. I think it should be a rule that you have to post your street address under your screename so you can be looked up when someone needs to "discuss an issue" with you. :p :D

Mac kind of hit it on the end. Nobody here can get an ass whoopin' for being a douche bag, and you don't really know who could give you one. I'm in Macs category of not really needing to worry about my personal safety. ;)
The other is far to much gets lost in text that's conveyed in speech or when you're talking to someone. You miss all of the mannerisms and the way somebody is saying something. You can cut around a lot of the riff-raff and b.s. when you're writing something out. I like it when folks are honest and up-front and that's no different whether it's on the forum or in person. Tell it like it is, no bullshit. Do that, and we'll get along fine and probably have a hell of a good time.
