I am trying to decide the best Pre Amp / Amp setup for my 1.2TL's. Please let me know of any suggestions. I don't want to go overboard in price. I am considering NAD products and Adcom products. Thanks!

Russ...you oughta get one of those scrolling marquees in your signature block at the rate you swap out gear...

What Russ said, how much you want to spend??

Hmm.............NAD is very good, I have used a set of 2700's as mono-block bridged to power my now sold 1C's, I suppose I could part with them since they are just sitting now.

My 1.2Tls currently are driven by a Carver CT-7 pre-amp and A760X amp. The CT-7 is a great no nonsense clean pre-amp, and Carver amps such as the A760x, A500x, TFM-45, TFM-75, or M4.0T are great for driving low impedance loads. I have them all, have used them all with 2.3s and 1.2s and do not believe you will be disappointed. The older Carver stuff or his newer Sunfire line also does not generate heat like a small oven unless driven to high power levels.

If you like to listen with the volume above elevator music level, you will need some serious power to appreciate the 1.2s. The meters on my 760 amp can easily bounce past the 0 dB (380W @ 8ohms) mark when I demo them or when I just get in the mood.... and the 1.2s do not complain. A common comment I hear from friends or neighbors is “The louder it gets, the better it sounds.”

If you watch eBay, you should easily find mint Carver amps and pre-amps like I mentioned for under $1K for both. All my Carver stuff (and I have a lot) came from eBay and I have never been disappointed. Of course you may have to read between the lines of the listings and emails from sellers to determine what you will receive. I have also given friends Carver amp/pre-amp combos as gifts, and they continue to praise the systems many years later.

Bottom line, most of the Carver hardware is a great bang for the buck. Drop me a note if you have any questions.

Good luck with your quest.

You know what they say.... Be careful what you ask for.

Then again, sometimes it can be fun.

If money wasn't a consideration, I'd recommend a pair of Krell KAV250A's switched to mono-block mode. That would be 1000 wpc each into 8 ohms. You can find these on Audiogon for $1700 each.

I'm fairly happy with around 60wpc tubes on the SDA-SRS's.

I suppose that I would like to stay under $2000 for Amp and Pre Amp. Thanks again for the advice.

What kind of music do you listen to? Or is this a HT application? Answers will impact your "best choices".

What SDA interconect do you have? Straight wire or AI-1 or both? Some amps like many Adcoms need the AI-1 or their negative terminals strapped together when used with SDA's.
