The replacement tweeter of SL2500 and SL3000 is RD0198-1; however, the same tweeter is charged different prices, depends on what you are going to say what it will replace.

Even I need the SL3000 replacement, should I simply tell Ken or Helen that I want the replacement for the SL2500 to save $16 a pop

Ignore that price list, it doesn't apply to the new tweeters.

I've got a 15 year old set of RTA 8TL speakers with a blown tweeter. I bought them brand new in 1990 or 1991 for $500 and used them for years with my Carver HR-752 receiver, now with my HK home theatre receiver + some additional Polks for surround / center. I absolutely LOVE the old RTA 8TL speakers and don't want to replace them. Emailed with Ken about getting the RD0198-1 replacement for the original SL-2500.

He said most people just replace the busted one, but I wanted to get opinions to see if anyone thinks it's a better idea to replace both. It's not like it's going to break the bank at $120 for two.

Any opinions?

Well first off, they're only gonna cost you $48 each including shipping. All you have to do is say that you're a Club Polk member. Secondly, we might be able to help each other out here. If you want to replace the 2500 with another 2500, I've got a minty fresh one that I'll take a silk replacement for or I've got a silk replacement that I'll trade for your good 2500. Whatcha think??

What do I have now? The originals are the tri-lams, right? In any case, I only have one working SL2500, circa 1990... So if I trade it to you for a silk replacement, I'll still be one working tweeter short...

Is the RD0198-1 the silk replacement? If so, I get it! Then I get one more of those and I'm set.

I'm all for trading if you want an original tweeter since I'm not hugely attached to it. As long as my new set-up sounds good, I'm happy.

I have 1 silk replacement for the 2500 and one mint 2500. I have an almost perfect pair of RTA 8TLs also, circa 1991. one of the 2500s went bad during storage with the original owner, so I bought them with one tweeter out. I got a replacement from Polk and have them hooked up in my 2.1 HT. I will trade either so I would have a matched set. So would you. If you want the tri-lam, you'll need to get a silk to trade me. You'll have to get one anyway. So you have to decide if you want to have two different tweeters or buy two silks and sell the tri-lam. The 2500 is a great tweeter, but can't be readily found, I know.

I'd love to have another 2500 tri-lam, but how hard is it going to be to find a silk 2500 to trade? I'm still not clear on whether the RD0198-1 part is the silk or not. Is the RD0198-1 a completely different part?

If so, do we have:

1) SL2500 tri-lam (1st gen?)
2) SL2500 silk (2nd gen?)
3) RD0198-1 (replacement for either of the above?)

If it's all a hassle and I have to find a working, used, silk 2500, I think I'll just get 2 new ones and part with my tri-lam.

There is no SL2500 silk.
RD0198-1, which has a silk dome, is the SL2500 replacement.
I will buy 2 new replacements and sell the SL2500.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (I know, bad form) but I can't send a PM.

ND13 -- sorry for my prolonged absence, it couldn't be helped. What, if anything, have you done regarding that tri-lam tweeter? I still haven't fixed my speakers yet.
