Hey HT Gurus,

I highly recommend checking out Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (Collector's Edition/DTS). I loved it! It incorporates great sea voyage experience with excellent picture quality and incredible sound! I would use this DVD to showcase any home theater system. The first ten minutes of the film will get your attention - yesssss!! :D Please let me know what you think.

This is my first home theater and I'm just grinning from ear to ear. It may not be high end, but DAMN, does it sound great!

It's a very common HT demo. Really slow movie though

Maestro. You are absolutely right. M&C is excellent demo material. I like it for the use of surrounds and nice bass.

That and U-571 have the most low-end slam of any DVD I own....maybe Saving Private Ryan.

It is great for explosions and subwoofer action, hold onto your seat when the cannon balls come through the hull of the ship!

Another excellent HT demo movie is "House of Flying Daggers" both the echo dance and the fight in the bamboo forest have lts of side effects and sub work.

that's all it's good for. sorry to bash, but the rest of the movie was just plain dull and boring. :(

The movie seemed to be one of those to just kick back and relax with, not action packed at all...........OK, boring. There I said it. :D The gunfights are few and far between.

Why does it have to be a great 'HT Demo Disc', what happened to just saying 'Hey, this is a GREAT movie'.

Why so much time demonstrating, and not just watching and listening? Just curious, demo this, demo that. This keeps me up at night.

the demo is important to higlight to your Bose/htib friends what they are missing.

I find that I am watching a lot of crappy movies these days just to enjoy the 'demo' quality. Maybe it's just a phase......but I doubt it. :p

My personal favorites like GODFATHER I and II, ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL, SERPICO, SHORT CUTS, GLEN GARRY GLENROSS, GOODFELLAS, CASINO etc. are great films, but they are not the type of DVDs to audition a HT system, unless you wanted to test a center channel for dialogue. But if you wanted to hear how your money was well spent, then go for it!

I, too find myself purchasing DVDs based on, "I wonder how this would sound on the new HT?" I wasn't impressed with KINGDOM OF HEAVEN when it was at the movie theater, but I bought the DVD to see and hear how it would compliment the HT - WOW! It seemed better at home, so I like it now.
