I just upgraded my Kenwood 6.1 to a Onkyo 7.1 (TX-SR 603X)
I also purchased a CS1 Polk that I figured that I would use as a rear center. All of the new setup diagrams are showing Surround Backs (2) and Surrounds (2) plus the Sub, Fronts (2) and Center. That makes for 8 total speakers and not 7. Do I need to buy another CS1 or return the one I purchased and buy two speakers to match my two rear RT25i's. I'm confused in Cincinnati. Can someone give me the basic 101 on 7.1?

Peekobi,

In order to do 7.1 you do need 7 "full range" speakers plus a sub (the .1) for a total of 8. You probably can use the center you have with the AVR you have for 6.1 OR you can get rid of the rear center and get a matched pair if you want to try 7.1.

Good luck in your audio quest,

Scott

thanks Scott! Would I be better off keeping the CS245I or the CS1? Is either a better match for the 600's up front? I would then get two others for the back. I'd like to give the 7.1 a try.

I cannot find the RT25's on ebay but did find a set of RT35's for $130/pair. What do you think?

Can anyone tell me how a pair of 4 year old RT35's would stack up against a brand new pair of Monitor 30's. Can't decide not knowing too much about either?
Thanks!

rt35's are a much better speaker than the monitor 30's imo.
they're basically the older version of the current rti lineup.

If they're in good cosmetic and working condition, $130 is a good deal.

35's for the sides. move the 25i's to the back.

Peekobi, i just looked up your rt35's on e-bay. Damage on the sides of 1speaker but "not too bad" ?

Where's the damage? Why doesn't the camera pic show it. Might want to hold off on that one or better yet ask the seller wtf is going on.

I bought them this morning. We e-mailed back & forth and he said it was minimal and cosmetic. I figured I can't go wrong for $130
