Hello I need advise. Below is my current set-up, and I want to upgrade my subwoofer. I do not want to spend more than $899.00, which is the cost of those two subwoofers. I like A LOT of bass, so I was leaning towards the ISD/2, but I read and was told that the quality of the bass and driver is better with the PB12-Plus, although I would be sacrificing some output for quality. I need your opinions on which sub to get. Last but not least, are there dealers that sell SVS subs, or can they only be bought directly from them? ANy ideas on how to get a discount?

2 Polk RTI 70 (fronts)
1 Polk CSI 40 (center)
2 Polk RTI 38 (side surrounds)
2 Polk FXI 30 ( rear surrounds)
1 Polk PSW 650 / 1 Velodyne DLSR 3750 (2 subwoofers)
Monster HKS 3500 power center
Denon 3806 receiver
Denon 1920 DVD player
Monster cables

You have almost the same setup as mine.. If your budget is 899 get the 2/isd.. dual 12's over a single 12 even at a better quality driver is going to be negliable, you will lose output, I have the pb12/2-isd and it is a monster and is NO slouch in the bass department what do ever.. I started with a single 12 SVS and soon wanted the dual 12 model. that i have now, If it werent for me wanting the cherry finish this would be the last sub i ever purchased for my HT...

Here is my next question. How does the PB12 ISD/2 compare with the PB12 Plus 2? Can you feel and hear the $300 difference?

Ive never heard the plus/2... what you get with better quality drivers is not so much as more output but tighter bass, more refined detail. To me its still Neglible weather you will hear a difference. $300 worth? Not sure.

Yes, fork over the extra $300 for the plus2. You get a 900w amp compared to 600(Ron has said that the amp is actually closer to 1000), you get 3 4" ports instead of 3", better drivers & better finishes to choose from. $300 more is a no brainer compared to the $1000 difference between the plus & ultra.

for 300 more you get black.. for 500 more you get the colors... it's all subjective, he said his budget was 899.00, or he didnt want to spend more..

I was talking single 12 to dual 12's anyways.. i still say it would be minimal at best, However by all means if you have the cash get the better componets.. spend another 200 and pick a color.. It only takes cash to get what you want.. if you have had mediocre subs up until now any SVS will blow your mind.. much less the value based ISD-2..

Whiever one I get, I will only get the standarb black., but now I am debating between the three instead of the two original woofers...

I just picked up a PB-12 plus/2 b stock for about 1000.00. New :) They are 10% off the price of the base line black but you get the paino black finish. I talked to Ron and he said that the paino black finish is a bit off. He said that if he didnt tell you, you would not notice. They have full warranty, and are all new. I know it is 100.00 over budget but may be worth it. It is not on web site, you need to call. Good luck.

What does B stock mean? That it does not meet the manufacturers specifications? That is more than 10% off, the base price for that sub is $1.199, right?

The Piano Gloss is $1499. So you can get it for $1000? Just because the color is a little off?? The are sealed, unused, and brand new? If so, I will call and buy one tomorrow.

Just give them a call. Its paino Gloss(1399.00) that did not pass the quality standards. Ron told me that "if I didnt tell you, you would never know". They are 1099.00 plus 10% off. If you want one call quick they are going fast. jack

I just called them, and could not speak to Ron, but spoke to Eric. He said that the LOWEST he can and has gone is 1079 for the Piano Black, which is normally $1499????? but he said it looks like they have water spots on the paint. The dillema now is to spend 1199 for a prefect textured black or pay 1079 for the piano black with water spots??? Jack please put me in contact with RON, I can only speak to Eric. I will send you a PM so that you can have him call me

Jack, PM sent, please get back to me ASAP with Ron's contact info. The number listed on SVS's site only leads me to Eric, who is NOT aware of the price that you bought your for. Please help a fellow member out. I want to get the same deal that you did.....

brasil
12-07-2005, 03:58 PM
Faster, is there anyway that you can help me get it for that price?? They are telling me that the best that they can do is $1079.10, or $1199.00 (normal price for the textured black)- 10% off for the Piano Black PB12-PLUS2 with the defective paint???

You are already getting a hell of a deal, just eat ramen and hot dogs for a month and do it right. If you want the 10%, find someone in CA to help you out. Personally, I don't like the idea of using someone else's discount on an already very good price. But that's just me. Good luck on your hunt!

We also have a business, which many palces will honor a corporate discount, such as Crutchfield. Anyone willing to help??

you spent alot of coin on your current system. don't be so cheap about a sub. buy the pb12-plus/2 in textured black and then post your impressions...

brasil

Do you feel that that will be a better value than the Piano Black with the defective paint? The problem that I am having, is that we have NEVER had to pay MSRP for ANY of the components tht we have bought. Every retailer is wiling to give a corporate discount. I even got a discount on the Denon 3806 that was just released. I am not trying to be cheap, but I want a fair deal. Let me ask you this... How may of you have walked into a dealership and paid full MSRP for a car? I would be willing to bet that not one of you.

BIZILL

cars vs subs....apples to oranges. i am like you as well. i don't pay retail on anything. first thing ever was my svs. it is a fair price once you compare its output to other more expensive subs. anyway, you can find used. also keep checking in with svs for b-stock. some are just returns with no blemishes at all from the trial period when people have changed their minds. i wouldn't buy a blemished piano gloss black. the only benefit over textured black is the peq. it's up to you.

So what will it be... A slight imperfections on the Piano Black for 1079, or a perfect textured black for 1199?

By the way, what is your opinion on the PB12 Plus 2? Was it worth the investment?

obviously the blemished piano, unless you can find a b-stock textured.

for shizzle my nizzle.

i went from what i told myself was a good sony 12" sub to this beast. music and movies have taken on a new meaning. hits deeper than my two jlaudio's in my car.

At some point you will need to make up your own mind. We can't tell you what is best for you or what you can afford or not. Just get what you think you can afford. Simple, huh
