In June, my mother in law passed away. Our family was deeply saddened and we miss her terribly, especially around the Holiday season. Life goes on and we have been in the process of closing her estate. Just prior to her untimely death she had purchased a 20” television. In November I moved the TV from Boston to Pittsburgh along with some other items.
For the last several years I have wanted to get my mother a new TV set. My mom is elderly (79), frail and resides in a personal care home. She has tried her best to remain as independent as possible since the passing of my father eight years ago. She was raised during the Great Depression is thrifty and is slow to ask anyone for anything. The last several years I suggested that she may want a new TV to replace her tiny 13” that she has on her dresser for Christmas. My mom’s eye sight is very poor but she was pretty firm that she didn’t want one and has been cool to the idea. Several weeks ago I told her about the TV that I was brought home from my mother in law’s house. I suggested that she may want this larger TV (20”) as it would be easier for eyes. She agreed and last night I took it over to her. She was so happy with how much larger it was than her little TV and how much better it was to see. It was nice to spend some time with her just watching her new TV. I don’t visit her as often as I would like and I really enjoyed that moment.
It also struck me how much this small improvement had such a big impact for her. Many of us spend a lot of effort and money and hope to see and/or hear some improvement with our systems. We should be grateful for what we have and try to remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves. I would like to suggest that everyone who reads this thread try and do something for someone who is need, poor health or just lonely. A little can go a long way towards making a difference for someone this Christmas. Merry Christmas and God bless all of you!
