Bose System & Yamaha Receiver compatiablity !

Hello Friends,
I have Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV Black but YAMAHA - HTR-5830 Receiver , a 5.1 channel Amplifier, Can any one among you tell me if I want to make my system 5.1 Channel what do i need to do ?

Request you to let me know at the earliest as I wanna do that quickly.

Thanks for your response. But Can we directy connect the cube speakers to Yamaha Amplifier ? As far as I know it must go thru the sub.
Even if I get two new speaker as advised by you, How will i conenct that ?

For those of us not familiar with the bose system, what do you have? how many speakers and the bass cube thing?

I would assume that you could hook everything up just like you do now (but plugged into the yamaha reciever) and then add speakers where you need to.

I personally would add front speakers and a center (plugging all 3 into your yamaha reciever) and plug your side and back speakers into your bass module as you do now and plug your bass module into the yamaha reciever in the back and side speaker locations.

I have 2 cube speaker & One Bass .
As of now Output of Yamaha is connected to Bass and Bass is connected to ttwo Cube speaker...
My point is if ... as suggested by this forum if I buy 2 more cube speaker where & how will i connct that to ? Directly to the Yamaha receiver & Not thru Bass ?

Finally from configuration viewpoint..I will have 3 wires going out of yamaha for Speakers..

1 -> Small cube speaker left
2 -> Small cube speaker Right
3 -> Base Module -> Two cube speaker left & Right

Will the system work then..

Bose does not sell additional cube speakers. Hooked up to a receiver w/out running through the sub would just blow them out..
Though of updating this with one who is not familiar with cube speaker

Sorry, I did not mean purchase another cube speaker. I meant replace your front stage. Just cuz its a polk forum - lets say you purchase 2 r50 tower speakers for about $75 each on sale from outpost.com. - then you purchase the center channel that goes with the R50's. (I am not sure what center that is, but this is all hypothetical anyway)

Those 3 speakers would hook into your yamaha reciever as the front left and right speaker and the center speaker.

Your existing speakers you would mount in the back (or side) of your room. The Bass module would also be located somewhere in the back of your room. You would connect the side speakers in your AVR to the bass module and then from the bass module connect to the existing bose speakers.

In your Yamaha AVR, you would set your front speakers to large, center and rear speakers to small, sub to off.

When you are ready to make the next home theater step, purchase a subwoofer, plug it into the LFE output on your yamaha AVR and set the sub to ON.

Michael's reco to relegate the Bose to the surrounds is a great suggestion.

IF you really want to keep Bose all around (which no one here would recommend), get the Bose center and a pair of Bose non-cube speakers for the surrounds.

You could use the cubes and bass module for the fronts set to "large" on the receiver, center and surrounds set to "small" with a relatively high crossover setting (120-150 Hz), and sub set to "off". If you want to add deep, powerful bass, buy a powered sub and set the sub to "on" on the receiver.

If you have an acoustimass, you will need to hook everything up to the bass module. Bose has their own way of making stuff work. The module controles the xover seeing as those lil cubes can handle much.

You could so I hear just plug all your sound in the module and use that as the only speaker ;)

If you used this center and these for surrounds (links), I do not think you would need to run them through the bass module - they are not cubes and I would think they could be used as normal "small" speakers, albeit with a relatively high crossover setting on your receiver.

Again, unless you're stuck on Bose, buying something else (like the Polks mentioned) for your L/R/C and using your existing Bose for surrounds will give you better overall sound, especially for music.

Set your receiver's speakers to "small" for any cubes attached without the bass module and they won't be sent lower frequencies.

You will not be able to run the Bose setup correctly with the reciever. Your issue here is that the sub on the Bose system isn't really a sub, but a "bass module". It covers and reproduces a significant amount of the low AND mid frequencies from the speakers (I recall measuring frequencies in the upper 200Hz range from the base module my father owns). So if you use the cubes, you have to use the bass module since the cubes were not designed to reproduce any of that audio signal.

I also agree with just about all sentiments listed above, you should really look at getting different speakers for a surround setup. The Bose system my father has can bairly hit 40Hz, whereas I shake the entire house at 14Hz (and flex the drywall at 9Hz).

You could also check ebay for the AM-7 which consists of a Center Cube, Two L/R cubes and a bass module.

Hook up the AM-7 to the front stage, and use the AM-3 for the rears.
