i would think if the speakers are further away from each other than the listener (a rectangular listening area) then they would sound pretty good with 2ch. music; as long as they're set to bipole mode and the woofer sides are faced inward.
I don't have the room for it, just wondering if anyone's tried it.
What do you guys think?

I havent tried it but wouldnt that cause a lot of issues with phase and/or cancellation?

For fans of imaging, like me, it is not a desireable setup.

Actually, it could probably image like a mofo, if a little care was given on setup. Several 'older' designs were very similar to what you've suggested here. The big ones (successful) that come to mind are the AR LST & LST 2, and DCM TimeWindow series.
It's really no different than having a similar speaker toed in, with an ambient tweeter. Could end up being very 'spatial'.
Cheers,
Russ

that's what i was thinking. the side with just the tweeter (a-la FXi3's) would simply bounce it's sound off the adjacent side wall.
might try that one day if i have the type of room calls for it.

I played with a pair of my f/x1000's for a while as mains. Very listenable from an SQ standpoint.
Lack of stands kept me from dialing in imaging, but they weren't bad. Placement of instruments was a little vague, but depth of soundstage was quite good.
