I know we've just started 2006.. but, is there talks of a gathering some where and some place in 2006?

I'm not looking for details yet.. it's way to early for that. so... i just wanted to know if anyone knows.. if there are plans in the works for something this year?

Oh I just did.
Cali is a nice place to have a gathering that I might go to.

Kansas City is a good place for a central location. Pretty much right in the middle of the country.

I have volunteered to host Polkfest again in 2006.

However, if the concensus is to go someplace else, I'm not trying to be greedy.

East coast pretty much guarentees the attendance of some of our more senior members. It would be cool to go to the HQ again, or at least for the Polk presence.

I gotta admit though, Vegas would be pretty smooth.

For what its worth, having it at Troy's crib (a little hip hop lingo there) would be fine and dandy with me.

Lemme put it this way, in October, there will be a gathering at Chez BDT. Now, as to if it is the Official Polkfest 2006, that would be cool but if the consensus is to go elsewhere, that's ok too.

BDT

Hmmmm, don't know if Matt Polk (& gang) would let us back in Polk HQ two years in a row.

TroyD
01-04-2006, 09:40 PM
Nope, I've talked to Al and Paul about this. They loved doing it, but opening up HQ Polk every year just isn't feasible for them. It will happen again, just not yearly.

Now, far as I know, Polk will sponsor Polkfest and will have, if at all possible, someone from Polk come to Polkfest. Just not at HQ Polk.

Who do we know in Kansas City? maybe some ribs? Mmmmmmmm! RIBS!

I don't think it has to be a central location exactly.. but some place where people would like to attend.. and where maybe it could allow other members to attend. It's doubtful the "perfect" location exists.

We got plenty of time.. it's early. We can toss around more ideas in the coming weeks and months.

Hawaii??? :D

lots for spouses to do in Vegas Baby!! that right there will help you get the green light from your better half. ;)

Flights to Vegas are usually pretty cheap. Hotels could also be cheap. I'm sure one of the hotels would probably cut us some kind of rate.. you people with connections could help with that part.

Really would be a lot of fun...

TroyD
01-05-2006, 04:45 AM
Just out of morbid curiosity, what would we do for gear? My 2.3tl's aren't going to fit in a carry on bag.

BDT

danger boy
01-05-2006, 04:47 AM
shipping! lots of people shipped gear in Sept for PF05. i think everything arrived in good condition. I know you're not going to ship 2.3TL's. but maybe something smaller.. ha ha ha

TroyD
01-05-2006, 05:10 AM
heh heh heh....

Realistically, there's a LOT more to it than that. I'm not really down with doing this with everyone just showing up at a hotel more or less haphazardly.

No offense to anyone's gear but I'm also not too keen on driving halfway accross the continent to get my groove on to a pair of RTi70's and an Onk HT setup.

Russ, Mark and I have already done this and there's a lot of work that goes on to putting one of these on. I don't say that in a bad way, but, I don't want Polkfest to be some sort of half ass event. The reason I've volunteered to do it again is, one, I have pretty decent space and resources to do it. Two, I've got a decent slate of gear at my disposal so I'm not as reliant on others bringing gear. Three, I'm within reasonable distance to a lot of the hardcore forum crowd (not to slight our growing Left Coast contingent). Last, but certainly not least, The Lovely Wendi knows how to throw on hell of a party and really enjoys doing it.

Anyway, that's about it for me. Charleston is on the table and I've already spoken with Al and Paul about it and they are sorta jazzed about Charleston again. That said, nothing is in stone. If the concensus is someplace else, by all means do it up but do it up right.

BDT

danger boy
01-05-2006, 05:43 AM
of course Troy (and Wendi). just doesn't seem fair for you guys to bear the load again so soon. it's way early. and if your place makes the most sense afterall.. by all means it might make the most sense, logistic wise.

But like you said.. it's easy for some East coasters to attend.. but quite a bit more difficult for some people who live West of the ole Mississippi to attend.

I'll try to attend again no matter where there's a party. ;)

October is perfect. I'm there! Let me know the dates when you and Wendi firm it up.

I'm bringing:

SE OTL monos
Dynaco ST-70
Grounded grid pre
EE MiniMax tube CDP
Shanling CDT-100 tube CDP
Enough blues to gag a government mule

Vegas is fun for a couple of days. But, I'm booked there for business the entire last week of July and first week of August (which is right at 1 week and 5 days too much).

I am there. Troy offered up for 06 quite a while ago, also RuSs. Either or both is great with me. I am all for keeping it local.

I can bring the MF Tri-Vista SACD/CDP and the Dodd MLP if another pre is needed. The R2R last year was great, maybe a vinyl rig this time. Would love to hear a SET rig with some high efficiency speaks.

Yoo Hoo its a ways off but still something to look forward to.

Actually already discussed possible dates....thinking the holiday weekend in October.

For those that were here last time, about the only things that are the same are the SRS 2.3tl's and the Conrad Johnson pre. All new gear, house has been remodeled somewhat so, gearwise, it's not a simple rehash of the last time. Dave, my co-conspirator, also has some new goodies to add to the lineup.

Oh, and of course there will be enough food and drink for an army. Looking forward to the Doro/Bush rematch.

Let's see, 2 'fest's ago (original BDT bash) I got stuck at work and could not get the vacation time. The HQ thing back in Sept fell right on my already scheduled beach vacation.

I'm all over heading to BDT's this year. Damn it, i'm going to make one of these events if it effing kills me! The last was the HQ bash back in 2003.

As far as I can tell, the Holiday weekend in October would be primetime for me. I'll have more than enough vacation saved at my new place.

For equipment, you gents have everything covered that I could offer to bring. I could offer up my photography skills though (and photoshopping said photos afterward...muahahahaha!). No strippers! I ain't bringin them dummies along!

Let me see if I can clear this up...

No one gets eff'd out of anything. If y'all want to throw a Polkfest, then do it. It would be nice if it did not conflict with Octoberfest SC II, but other than that...

As for official Polk participation, it was not always that way. The first was a small gathering in Austin... half dozen or so and little if anything sponsor-wise.

Then RuSsMan threw one and attendance grew a bit, but not alot, and Polk sent some small logo bits and happened to have an executive, Stu, traveling who laid over in Dallas and dropped by.

Then Troy's SC I got pretty big, so Polk sent Paul and Al and more giveaway stuff.

And then there was MD Fest at HQ...

So quit bitching and start planning. Plant some seeds and maybe in a year or two you'll have something. The Midlands and East Coast do, because some folks have worked pretty hard to make it happen.

I actually am planning PF 2007 in Joisey here at Swan Lake Farm. I've got some room, and accomodations are within 10 minutes. The Airport is right across the river.

Tour is exactly right....it's one thing for folks to say we ought to have a gathering in location X. It's quite another for someone to actually commit to it and volunteer to host as it is a signifigant investment of time and money to do it. You guys got to remember, Polk Audio doesn't put these on. They have been generous with supporting it in terms of giveaways and having people attend but the event itself is organized and funded by the host. My attitude was and is, if you want to get people to come, you've got to create an event people WANT to come to.

Exactly. That's why I'm going for 2007. It gives me time to get it together, sock away the money, get the place in order, yada yada.

Plus, I figure if I open the extra homeowners policy right now, they won't bat an eye when I file the claim... :D

i'm not opposed to going East again of course... but looking towards the next few years... if Troy and Wendi host in 2006, and Anthony hosts in 2007. basically means the only opportunity for any other location is 2008???

that's the only reason i'm concerned.. people are lining up for the next year to host a gathering. and i know these are NOT sponsored by Polk Audio. and that the host commits a huge amount of time and resources to be able to host an event like this.

Where in the "rules" does it say there can only be one "informal" Polk gathering per year. You could even have one the same weekend somewhere in the west (Vegas seems to be a peoples choice). Link together via the forum or maybe even a web cam. Nothing like "bein' there" but...

Shack's exactly right. Look, I'm far less concerned about being the 'Official' Polkfest host than I am with hosting a gathering for all my friends.

While the Polk angle is cool; it's not a major concern.

OK, I was thinking 2007 too, I got not problem with Jersey also RuSs was thinking of one and got no problem with Tejas.

I will do one in October, nice weather in Brunswick Ga. then, got the house, the listening rooms, plenty of nice, clean, reasonable motels 1-2 miles away, easy access off of 95 or from I-10, two airports and access to gear, I dont care which one is the "official", but obviously needs to be interest, anyway, its a long way off, lets getting boogeying on BDT!!!

I'm just saying... if we have three or more gatherings a year.. how many people would make an effort to attend 1 or more? it would get expensive... and time consuming.

Yeah, local or regional gatherings, whether Polk "official" or not.. are a great idea.. keeps us connected to other Polkies in our locations.. I'm just curious if a gathering were held in say Seattle how many folks from the East or Southeast would fly out?

Any gathering with you freaks is fun.

IMO no one as you stated it would get very expensive.

How 'bout the Driftwood?

I hear there is a nice theater there, maybe we could all catch a movie. ;)
How about we do it at the beach? That will make all the inlanders want to come so they can see the ocean that they have all read about at some point in their lives. :D

Old Disneyland ride system... A/ B/ C depending on how desireable the attraction.

An example would be for Russ to kiss my ass would be an A ticket.

you mean an "E" ticket ride...

Polkies are always welcome at Bear`s Cave....
seperately or in large quantity..
