Drooping speakers

OK I need some help here. I bought a set of m3's outdoor model. When I mounted them on the wall (about a 45 degree angle) and inserted the splined dowel to hold them in place, they just sagged down to the wall. After removing the dowels, I noticed the splines had twisted! Is there a fix for this?
