yeah, it happened every other year, it seems. They should have a moving escalators by now, if OSHA was involved.

You guys are way off track on this one. I saw a documentary a few years ago on the history channel where they explained this stampede theory. There really isn't much that can be done. Apparently when a large mass moves into a smaller area this starts happening and there is no way to get it stopped. The documentary used some old war example. I wish I could remember the battle... Anyway, most of the soldiers were killed before they got to the enemy.

Perhaps they would be smart enough by now to widen the road or add another bridge.
Anything would be better than letting people die every year.
They should take some of that oil money they hoard and move the stones to a nice arena somwhere. They could have bathrooms and a couple of snack bars.
Curry on a stick anyone?

345 people trampled to death in the name of religion?

Now who, exactly, is off base? It's MORONIC, IDIOTIC, and plain lunacy in my book. Sadly, a part of that culture; I know, I was there.

My supervisor is currently there for his prayers. Even though the guy is a jerk, I hope he's not amongst those who was trampled or hurt.

He may have been one of the lucky ones who got a chance to cast some pebbles at the three pillars to cast the demons out of his soul. He may come back a changed person. Or not. ;)

More people than you can count have died in the name of religion, look at the Spanish inquisition or the Crusades for that matter. stupidity spans across all cultures and is not exclusive to the Moslems or any other particular religious group. thanks ....WCW III

Yeah but I guarantee you if it were possible to tally all the dead that muslims would have the most blood on their hands. And the Crusades were in retalliation to muslim attacks, not just a bunch of Christians deciding to go kill a bunch of people.

I would have to agree that Muslims would have the most' blood on their hands' as you put it. That's the way they spread their religion: the sword.

If he survives, most likely he will give us a Powerpoint presentation about his adventures there during the next department meeting. ;)

1426 in 1990, 244 in 2004, 345 in 2006.

And we think that democracy will bring common sense to this region? They need democracy less than we need a very tall, very long wall.........................its evident that they don't have the ability to learn.

At least our pilgrims eventually became Americans.

Yeah but I guarantee you if it were possible to tally all the dead that muslims would have the most blood on their hands.

Nobody knows that for sure, just like no one knows for a fact that Christianity can claim the same. But I think it's safe to assume that more have died throughout history at the hands of organized religion regardless of sect.

And the Crusades were in retalliation to muslim attacks, not just a bunch of Christians deciding to go kill a bunch of people.

The 1st Crusade of the East and the re-taking of Jerusalem applies here somewhat, but still there's more to it.

Clairvaux- a french theologian later confirmed as a saint started the 2nd crusade. He was a big-time opponent to the Renaissance that was happening at the time and believed that through "Gods Will" overtaking the other worlds religions and replacing them with Christianity would bring good back to the world.

Crusades 3-9 were originated from the aggression of Popes & other religious leaders and acted out through their political counterparts: the European Kings and Emperors. Granted they were all less radical than Clairvaux, but they too felt it was "gods will" to sack the holy land via way of The Nile through Egypt under the flag of religious unification. :)

I love how people compare current Muslim escapades to the Crusades. The Christian Crusades happened almost A THOUSAND YEARS AGO! Society has changed a bit since then, one would hope.

Something like those who do not learn from it are destined to repeat it?
