I have FXi3's for my surrounds and don't really want to mount them to the wall. I've been looking at Sanus speaker stands but would prefer a speaker stand that is only 8 to 9 inches high vs. the 16" to 18" minimum that I typically find. I just want to get them off the floor.

Any suggestions?

let me get this straight. You want to put your fx surrounds 9" above floor level?
What's the point? You might as well just set your receiver for Virtual Surround.

I get your point but my wife doesn't want to look at speakers next to the couch. I may just end up going with one of the Sanus stands and get them up higher anyway.

Where do you have yours - wall mounted or on stands?

freakin' wall-mounted dude. Stand up to your wife, or start re-arranging $hit in the kitchen.

Seems to me like wall mounted would be the most aesthetic way to do it rather than having stands taking up floorspace. Sounds to me like any compromise is a case of p-whipping. LOL Just a good-natured jab. Please dont take offense :)

Either wall mounted or stands is OK, but the stands should be tall ones (28" plus). If you and your wife can't compromise on either of these options, then get rid of the speakers or make an executive decision. Eventually, she'll get used to the way it looks. At first, my wife didn't like it either, now she loves the sound so much that speaker placement doesn't matter anymore.

this thread is a perfect example of why Bose does the business they do.
Smart.

I have my side fxi5 surrounds on speaker stands and they sound very good. In my apt. i had them mounted on the walls and could not really tell the difference. If you are very critical on your setup than use wall mounts. I am a casual ht enthusiast, so it doesn't matter to me whether they are in the walls or stands. As long as the stands are high enough.

Which Sanus stand fits the best for the FXi3?

if looks are an issue to the wife, go in-wall or in-ceiling.

Where I am renting now looks is not an issue. The issue is finding a wall to put them on. To the right of the listening area is a hallway with a single (3 1/2") wall and then a stairway. I am thinking about putting the speaker up against the ceiling on this wall, but it will be more than 6' above the floor. Both the left and right speaker will have to be even with the listening area.
When we get to move back into our home I can just rewire to put these where I want to.

Are slots for the speaker to hang on in the center of the speaker or offset from the center?

I am getting some Fxi3 as well, for a 5.1 set up. In this room, with the seating against the back wall, I guess the bipole/dipole speakers are our only choice. We have weird crown molding in the room, so wall mounting is not going to happen without some construction, and that just isn't going to happen. So, Which stands are the best for these speakers, because I MUST use stands. I saw a picture of the Fxi3s on stands in the showcase. They looked tall enough, and slim enough to fit in the space. So, Sanus is the brand to check out?
