My speakers have an external, high level X-over. I also have schematics and some decent soldering skill. How difficult would it be to modify the X-over from handling high level to line level inputs and output the same?

Should I just start over with the schematics and build from scratch? My concern is the output impedence causing a screw up in the X-over and popping parts. My EE is getting rusty so I'm looking for input from someonw whose done something like this or can use the schematic to give me an idea of mods needed.

The X-over is the external portion of the belows. I believe I have the rev 1, but I can't be sure untill I get back home.

I'm hoping this is just a case of adding RCA plugs and a resistor...

The inductance coils, and capacitor values are set to work with the impeadance
of your drivers to achive their cross over freq. If you try coping this to make a line level crossover to place inbetween your pre. and your amp the frequency(s) are going to be way off due to impeance mismatch (going from 4 or 8 ohms on the speakers to 10k+ohms on the electronics. at least thats what I seem to recall from my 4 months of electronic classes.

That's my concern. However, the high ohm levels would be on each side of the crossover. How that affects the circuit beyond limting current flow, well, I left Pspice in my other computer and I am not pulling out my circuits book if I can help it.

Just a follow up, tried this out. High's make it through, mids and bass are barely audible.

You should call or write the speaker manufacturer. In addition the the bi-amping modification, they might also be able to provide other performance enhancement tips.

Did you try searching the MUG (Magnepan User's Group) forum or posting there? Check out the tweaks section.
