this is mostly a power question..im going to be using either denons 4806 or 5805 reciever and i wanted to know if these recievers can do a good job of powering the lsi's series of speakers...lsi15s,lsi center..lsi fx surrounds,lsi7s for rears in a 7.1 setup.I have gotten responses saying no need for any addtional amp and others that say to use an addtional amp.

Welcome.

Considering you're powering the 15's and it's a full 7.1 setup- get a separate amp.

If you decide to keep the denon, make sure the ohm switch is set to 8. Not 6 or 4.

I bet you have gotten that response from those selling the reciever, not those who own the speakers... :)

If you are still in the purchasing stage I would just go with separates. If that is not an option (some people just like the all in one of an AVR) look at recievers from B&K, Sunfire, Rotel, etc.

Most definitly look at external amplifiers. If you haven't already bought the Denon, or if you can take it back, I would. For that kind of money you could get a nice HT pre/pro to go with your amp/amps.

Here's a list of manufacturers to get you started:

Outlaw Audio Products Page (http://outlawaudio.com/products/index.html)

Rotel HT Multi-Channel Amplifiers (http://rotel.com/products/multichannel-power-amplifiers.htm)

Adcom Multi-Channel Amplifiers (http://www.adcom.com/amplifiers/multichannelamplifiers.htm)

B&K Products (http://www.bkcomp.com/products.asp)

NAD Home Theater Products (http://www.nadelectronics.com/ht_amplifiers/index.htm)

Audosource Amplifiers (http://www.audiosource.net/amplifiers.html)

AMC Amplifiers (http://www.amchome.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=AO&Category_Code=Amplifiers)

Sunfire Amplifiers (http://www.sunfire.com/amp.htm)

I have that exact same speaker system and can confidently say that the Denon receivers listed would do a fine job of driving those speakers to a level that would satisfy the majority of listeners. However I would say that you could get better performance for less out of a decent receiver as a preamp/processor and a separate power amp. Just depends on your preferences and situation.

Enjoy!

I was looking at the denon brand because it has features not offered in many other av recievers in that class range that suits my needs..Its mostly going to be used in a HT situation and prob not blasted to high levels. I was thinking of a 200w outlaw amp to boost the fronts

That should work pretty nicely. Get three Outlaw M2200's to power your front three speakers and run the rest off the Denon. Then, after you're flabbergasted over how much of an improvement the amps made, you can get M2200's for the rest of your speakers!

7 m220s? where do you guys for the space for 7 amps..wouldnt one of outlaws 7x200 amps do the same job?

Sure would. But you said you only wanted to amp the front speakers. It'd be a smarter move to just go ahead and amp them all. But the M2200's don't take up that much space, as they're very thin.

The 5803 can run your LSi's just fine. No, they wont sparkle and shine to potential, but it will get the job done and you can sit back and enjoy all the features you desire. I would advise running three outlaw amps... for the center / left / right channels if you feel it necessary and can spend the extra coinage.

You should just get 7x200 Outlaw & be done with it. I would also look at getting a lower priced Denon if you go this route.

in that case, so will a 3806. Basically will give you the same sound quality with less features and a whole lot less $$ spent.

Space for all those M2200's is an issue...
Where do you plug them all into???

At my house, it's over priced hamsters and what I call "the wheel of fortune"

That works too. At least if you ever decide that's not enough power you can easily step up to squirrels.

I have the Denon 3805 and even though I have never heard it run the LSi series....I have no complaints with it running the RTi speakers. IT WILL POWER your LSi's fine. and yes I just looked at the oerator manual on my 3805 IMO its a powerful reciever capable of NORMAL listening levels.

I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for, but though you might like to see it depending on what features you were looking for.

Dennon 5800 AVR - $1,650 on the Gon (http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?homeproc&1143603800)

Just wanted to make sure you had seen it since you seem to really like the big dennons.

I had a Denon 3600 running my lsi9s and once I went separate, they sounded MUCH better, go Outlaw all the way, you won't regret it
