Dave Matthews Band

Last night I saw the Dave Matthews Band live for the first time and it was AWESOME! it was the most powerful concert i've ever been to. i've been a dave fan for many years, but seeing them live brought it to a whole other level. the show was at the Woodlands north of Houston, which was a great venue. the 2 people i was with and i had lawn tickets and we laid out a blanket and just absorbed the show. dave put on a 3 hour show that was very deep, but rocked at the same time. overall i had a great weekend. spent saturday afternoon at astroworld and that night drinking Fat Tire at Sam's Boat. any other dave fans here?

I'm a Dave fan. Unfortunately I haven't seen them in concert. I'll get around to it one of these days since they usually come to my home town in the summer. Everyone I've talked to that's seen him in concert has been greatly impressed. I think DMB is one of the best live acts out there right now.

Fat Tire is an excellent beer from Colorado that's one of my Fav's. Unfortunately they don't distribute it to LA yet or anywhere out of the West/Midwest. Check it out if you ever see it.

I am sorry but Dave used to be good before society(well, sort of) made him sell out to the whole TRL boy band crap! His latest albums have blown hardcore and only his good music was his early stuff. Sorry.

HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE Dave fan here, I am actually going to see him in 8 Days! I went last year when he played at Doger's stadium, and it was an awesome show. Although this year, I have some dope seats (I was first in line at tickettmaster) so it should be way better.

I have everyone of his CD's, including some imports, his unreleased album, both the DVD's, poster's, T-Shirts, stickers, wall calander, you name it.

lax01, I do partiallly agree with you, I think his last album sucked (by his standards). I really didn't like the new "electronic" sound alot of the songs had. I also don't like how he switched producers to Glen Ballard, I think that has alot to do with it. Glen Ballard also produced No Doubt, and Alanis Morrisette, and I don't think Dave belongs in a category with either of the two. The music under his old producer: Steve Lillywhite, was a much more authintic "Dave" sound, with more bluegrass and Jazz mixed in- less pop. Also, his band could really get together and "Jam" with the old songs, resulting in much longer songs (especially in concert). Most of his live songs are over 6 min! However all of his new songs are radio length, and make for much less interaction between the members.

I could go on for days about the band, but I'll stop here.

they played a 20-25 minute version of "two-step" and a 15-20 minute version of "crush." they played a couple of new songs off of the upcoming album as well.
as far as his new style is concerned, you shouldn't depend on a band to rewrite the same material over and over again. it gets tedius and boring. dave and the guys needed a change. i personally like his newer material, and understand their need to try something different.

I think "Everyday" is a definate step in the wrong direction. It sounds like a pop album. It's not terrible, but it's not up to Dave quality.

Mine, probably, Under the Table and Dreaming. Or the one right before that.

"Crash" is my favorite, and it's also one of my demo CD's. Followed closely behind "Crash" I like "Under the Table."

Under the Table has probably the best material however I think the quality of the recordings isn't what it could be....

Crash is by far a superior recording with top notch material as well......

Way back in the day, Dave used to play the small venues in Charleston (along with Hootie, Edwin McCain et. al.) and listening to the material live and then listening to Under the Table was a disappointment

I say Under the Table without much hesitation

However I also like Crash, and Lister Supported quite a bit, The DVD for Lister Supported is fabulous, although the recording quality on the Dolby Digital track is not up to snuff.

I think Live with Tim Reynolds reveals the huge amout of raw talent he posses. I actually have a friend who's good at lead guitar, and we'll get together, and I'll play the Dave parts and he'll play the Tim parts and we sound pretty dang good.

Tim and Dave make a great combo for live sets.

Dave and Tim at Luther College...I saw them when I was going to Illinois State in 2002. I definitely agree that the new albums are "poppy" but Dave is still Dave. They put on one of the best shows that I have ever seen.

Mine, probably, Under the Table and Dreaming. Or the one right before that.

Probably Live at Red Rocks ca. 1995 (I saw him at the Richmond Amphitheatre on the same tour), but nothing...and I mean no album or live experience... I doubt would compare to seeing him live at Trax and the Flood Zone in C-Ville and Richmond for 5 bucks circa 1992-93.

I haven't bought an album since Before These Crowded Streets, but even to me to Crash was a disappointment. Great recording technology but overproduced, IMO. Just my .02.

DMB must be experienced live, but the last time I saw them (April 1998) was kind of disappointing. I guess its all a matter of expectations based on past experience.

Love DMB! My current favorite is Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City Music Hall on Blu-Ray. Just the two of them having a good time and putting on a great performance.
