Right now I've got a Radeon 9600XT 256mb card oc'd. It peforms nicely for older games, but it's just not cutting it for the newer stuff. Sure it'll play fine with decent frame rates with everything set to medium or low. But I want my games to look pretty and still have amazing frame rates. My power supply is only a 350 watter. I don't know if that will be enough for an Nvidia card. Also, my mobo only has AGP slots, so no PCI-E for me :( Any suggestions?

I have a nice 9800 pro that Windows automatically runs as a 9800XT. I plays the newer stuff (CoD2, FEAR) but nothing fantastic. I imagine that would be a cheaper option that would not force you to upgrade everything.

Any idea how much you could get for your video card on the used market?

I can probably fetch around $50 for it. I paid $200 for it just last year.

Have a preference on ATi vs. Nvidia? Memory size? I assume you can do AGP 8x. Price limit?

If you decide to part with your current video card, let me know. I need to pick up something along those lines for the wife's PC.

Nvidia just came out with a new monster AGP card... http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/02/02/nvidia_7800gs_confirms_agp_aint_dead_yet/
And power supplies can be had cheap and are easy to install (obviously dont require any drivers...).

I can recomend a nvidia bfg 6800 gt, you can pick them up for 200$ and that psu should be enough for it.

I love ATI but don't mind trying out Nvidia. Price limit...let's say $150-$200. The 6800gt that karpiel mentioned may be my best bet. But I'm still open. Thanks guys.

how is the rest of your hardware?

if your cpu memory are getting out of date. Might want to start going to pci-e and upgrade everything else.

You'll definitely want the 1gb RAM for Doom3.
