DIY projector

I did my homework here but It seems that no one in this forum have tried to built one? If someone did please 2cents is appreciated. This is a project that I would like to explore. Research from other AV forums have been conducted. Need a POLK brother who had challenge himself to this.

I had planned on building one but sort of strayed away from it since I'd have to order the majority of my stuff from accross the border.

Check out diyaudio.com - they have tons of info on building their own. I read for hours and hours there about them and what you can accomplish with a couple hundred bucks and a good weekend.

If you want to try something cheap to start out you could research the 3" lcd controller projector. It uses a slide projector and a $20 playstation controller to produce an image good up until about 45". I bought a controller but never found a suitable slide projector for the task.

I was going to mess with this, bought an LCD panel, then never got around to it. Proxima Ovation... I believe it's 800x600, S-video, RGB, composite. It's been going for around $50-$60 on ebay. $40 shipped, assuming you're not in HI, AK or Canada...

There just so much information on how to build one and so many support sites and I am just afraid picking up the right one.

Dude, you're making it too hard. Pick up an LCD- Use an overhead panel like the one I have, hack apart an old lcd monitor, or find a smaller panel and take off the backlight. Get an overhead projector; choose the projector based on how big you want to go (bigger size needs more lumens). Put the LCD on the projector, turn it on.

Everything else is just cleaning things up so they look nice.

add a fan to uncs post & thats what I did buy a cheap lcd from fleabay got mine for $12 local pickup had been droped lcd was find plastic on the other hand was a diff story. I make fiberglass sheets so I use that to space the projector to the lcd filled in the gaps & added 3 chipset fans to it.
#1 heat kills lcds so cool it & space it or kiss it good bye.
#2 more watts on the light is a better pic. MORE HEAT
#3 trying to make a old school projector look good. We are going to build a house next year & as it looks pretty good im going to build it in the back wall.

Its well worth the time & money you put in it. But don't expect it to look like the movies. Good but not great..!..!..

Note I have also seen older 640X??? ready made projectors with lcd most say for laptop use but they go around 50 ish.

....or buy a barely used LCD projector cheap on ebay that's got a small footprint, looks nice and saves you the hassle.
