what is the best quality (sounding) outlet you can get at home depot or lowes? it would help a lot if you know the part number.

Just look for the words "Hospital Grade", that's good enough.

The *only* statement I will make now, on power cords, outlets, etc is the following:

You have a power source in your wall, how you choose to tap that source is up to you.

There's actual standard for it but I'm too lazy to look it up.

A couple are improved clamping power, longer straps for installation, treated for resitance to chemicals....I'd say that you covered the idea.
