2.3. Crossover upgrade

Has anyone upgraded their 2.3's. I am contemplating doing it and wonder what people of have done it experience was with changes in sound as well as any hints to avoid hassels. Thanks

Tweeters are easy, call polk cs and they'll hook you up, as far as x-overs,use the search function and you will be able to get alot of usefull information on the subject,while in the area,I would suggest replacing the binding posts. If you rebuild the x-overs,you will need to have "decent" soldering skills.

EDIT: replace the tweets first=smoother high's
The x-over rebuilds seemed to give me more bass extension,somewhat,and a better soundstage overall,but ,try the tweets,first,,,and then decide if you want to proceed.

Thank you for the information. I will be ordering the parts, dioving in and giving it a try. Please help me understand what is the advantage of replacing the binding posts. It sounds like darque knight found no difference when doing the 1.2's

Upgrading the binding posts will most likely make no discernible difference to your ears, but those old, whatever metal, posts have oxidized over the years. With new gold plated posts, you'll have no worries.

Jesse's right. The Polk binding posts are cheap metal. I've used the Vampire posts they are about $20 per stereo pair for the gold ones. I bi-wire and I hear a difference over single wire. I have not tried a pair of good jumpers. You can get good deals on used speaker cables on eBay. Don't buy Monster!!!! :mad:

Thanks for the tips. Can you tell me how difficult or extensive it is to change out the posts. Do you access through the passive raditor, like you do to get at the crossovers? I went on the vampire site and there seems to be several varieties. Do you have to drill new wholes or will they fit the current Polk openings? Thnaks
I won Monster M1000 interconnects and M1 speaker cable in a contest decades ago. I still use the wire but am planning to upgrade. I usually go on audiogon for used equipment so planning to look there for cables.

The plastic piece that holds the binding posts is screwed to the cabinet from the back with four screws each. You might need to enlarge the holes, depending on the type of posts you get. I did in mine.

And I did get rid of the stock binding posts years ago. You may have to drill but it's an easy job. If you can take on the crossovers then the binding post swap will be a breeze.
