After long, tense, negotiations ( :D )....the dates for Polkfest '06 have been, for all intents and purposes, set.

More info/discussion to follow but for those interested, those are the dates to plan on. Friday is the earlybird social gathering. Saturday is the 'fest and Sunday is the day to wrap it up and get out of Dodge.

Again, long way off but I wanted to let folks know so they can plan ahead.

I, for one, await the rematch between Mark and my hedges.

Gear update:

Guys, I been thinking on this. Last time around I don't think we demoed HALF the gear in the house. I'm leaning to doing it the way Mark did it at his house with relatively fixed rigs, probably 3. Now, if you have something special or requested (like Shacks RT400's that Russ wants to hear) cool and, by all means, we can hash this out but what I'm trying to do is go for quality demo over volume of gear plus, I'd hate to see anyone's gear get ganked up like Mark's Anthem preamp. Thoughts??

I'll be there. If Mark can't make it (I think he's doing something special for the Mrs. around then), you'll have to settle for my reinactment of the famous hedge scene.

Look, heading this back on track....Keith, I don't know you. I can only go by what I read. When it comes to my home and livelyhood, I take that fairly seriously.

Understand, this is a Polkfest but it's my home and I get to be the judge of what's appropriate and what's not and who is welcome and who is not. Joking about illegal drug use in my home, well, let's just say, that's not my idea of funny.

This is the list of hotels that Troy posted from the 2004 Polkfest. A bunch of us stayed at the Fairfield Inn, which is maybe 5 miles from Troy's. Nothing to write home about, but none of us spent much time there either.

Local Hotels

Holiday Inn Express:

http://online.reservations-web.com/...er=rw&footer=rw

Hampton Inn:

http://hamptoninn.hilton.com/en/hp/...ctyhocn=CHSNOHX

Residence Inn By Marriott
Address: 7645 Northwoods Blvd, Charleston, SC 29406
Phone: (843) 572-5757

My picks would be:

Holiday Inn Express
7670 Northwoods Blvd
843-553-1600
North Charleston SC

Hampton Inn
7424 Northside Dr 843-820-2030
North Charleston SC

Fairfield Inn
7415 Northside Dr 843-572-6677
North Charleston SC

The Motel 6 is ok and cheap from what I hear (for the budget traveler)

STAY AWAY FROM:

Super 8
Howard Johnson
La Quinta

disneyjoe7

Ted / RT1 and I stayed at the Hampton Inn if I recall correctly, I don't believe it is the one you listed as there are 2 or 3 around Troy. Maybe Ted could chime in and set my right if I'm wrong again. I stayed at Fairfield before and would stay where I stayed before, where that maybe (Hmm thinking)

Other airports within a couple hours: Columbia, SC and Savannah/Hilton Head.

...brett sitting so properly, arms and legs crossed...It called "nirvana". Not an easy thing to achieve in that crowd, formerly dubbed the "SDA Bro's"...

If you remember, brett's only prior, big SDA experience was with a pair of clearly eff'd up SRS's in the Phoenix area and so he had no appreciation for what all the SDA hubbub was about.

Either that or he was pouting 'cause Mark's a kiss and tell kinda guy...

The prospect of my EVER making a Polkfest seems to diminish daily.

I (today) brought my second large project in the last twelve months in--seven figures under budget. As I'd anticipated and been preparing for, there was an immediate offer of advancement tied to a massive project that's been "simmering" for a few years. The intellectual challenge is far too compelling to walk away from, so I accepted. The money isn't bad either. ;)

That's the good news.

The bad news is the meeting at Troy's may be impossible for me (again.)

I am willing to give RuSs a hand and suspect many others will be "watching" over him to the point he cant stand it. Maybe one of those "prom" type contracts???

I honestly don't think Sid needs someone looking after him 24/7 like he's a 3 year old. "No Sid, stay out of the cabinets! No Sid, don't touch, I said don't touch!!!" :D

I understand the minor thing though and it is a touchy issue. With alcohol flowing around...

If he's anything like he was at the Polk HQ Tour back in '03, he'll probably sit there quiet with his hands folded and barely speak.

I'm putting my vacation time in NOW at work so I can make this years event. Going to look into flying instead of driving. I have some frequent flyer miles racked up and should be able to get a good price.

True, but then again they sold Jekyll Island back to the state of GA. for a mere $675,000 in 1947 (actually GA forced the sale by a condemnation order) . The "rumor" is that it happened after a reported U-Boat attack/sighting during WWII, but in reality it was just economics.

And in fact these were their Winter Cottages where they came during the cold northern winters to hunt and so forth. They called it their "Winter Newport". No way they would spend much time there during the hot, humid GA summers without AC. A few other names of note that vacationed there are Marshall Field, Henry Hyde, J. P. Morgan, Vincent Astor and Joseph Pulitzer.

BTW, Jekyll Island is one of my favorite vacation spots although I haven't been there in about 4-5 years.

I spoke with Jesse (F1nut) yesterday and we threw around a few ideas. First off, Troy was dead on about flying into Charleston. Jesus H Christ, they want any unborn children I may have along with both arms and legs.

Flying is out!

Amtrak runs down there like he said. Not expensive (about $160 round trip), but 9 hours on a train to get there makes me squirm a bit.

Jesse is figuring out his plans to drive and where he heads from Troys. Thats about 9 hours of driving also from the Baltimore area.

We'll snag some rooms soom from Troys list.

Russman and I are staying at the following:

October 13, 2006 - October 14, 2006
Residence Inn - Riverview (http://www.residenceinncharlestonriverview.com/)
90 Ripley Pointe Drive
Charleston, SC 29407
843.571.7979
$270/ 2 Bedroom - Suite

We picked a downtown location so we can do some nightlife Friday night, as well as spying the local prostitutes and law enforcement facilities. It also has a complimentary buffet breakfast, which will be nice for the AM recovery. I know Russ likes to spoon, so we're sharing a bed...hopefully I won't remember anything, kinda like CES.

EDIT: I changed it to a 2 BR suite, so we have room for another guest as it's a huge room with a couch. I just remembered how loud he snores, so that sharing a bed idea is right out the window.

October 14, 2006 - October 15, 2006
Comfort Suites (http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?hotel=SC270&sid=HZUa.v8E1MgtXf.2)
2540 North Forest Drive
North Charleston, SC 29420
843.725.5400
$110/ 2 Queen Bed - Suite

This is our close quarters combat HQ for Polkfest, Saturday night. Also with free breakfast buffet. This is teh staging area for the assault....on our livers.

I'm also driving down, so if anyone needs a lift, let me know ASAP. Just be aware that since I'm driving, you're on my f@cking time, as in my schedule dictates when I'm leaving and where I'm going. I plan on arriving @ 1500 on Friday...leaving by 1200 on Sunday, FYI.

To the rest of you freakshow Polkies....if you hate me and want to meet me to tell me that...this is your chance bitches, bring it....and a couple cases of beer...and some chips.

I heard about those bushes and am training to take one on! I'm up to beating a small patch of grass right now. Still 2 months to train though.

John, you have celeb status with the Polk crowd, it's like a rare appearance or some such. Mark and I are used to it, we will have a card table setup, and sign 8x10's on Saturday morning for newbies and long time fans.

Feel free to join us. I think the pic of you in the T and sweatpants leaning on the 1c's really shows off your physique. Bring your Polk mug for tips (and phone numbers for Brett and Dangerboy).

I haven't decided what, but I'm going to ship up some hotrod old school tube shit, Eico, Heathkit... who knows. Get ready for KT88's strapped triode with Acrosound T330 output trannies, or something else hardcore. Maybe a little hands on tube tutorial for the interested? I'm going to go all out for this one, and contribute as much as I can.

Cheers,
Russ

I'm in for the tube tutorial. I know literally nothing about them, except that they exist and people love them. Eventually my SRS 2.3's will be promoted to fulltime 2 channel tube rig status.

I'm thinking on setting up a table along with Russ and Mark to sell autographed polaroids since Russ said i've achieved celebrity status. The Polk Coffee Mug will make an appearance also, although, I suspect more people will want to be photographed with that instead of me. Brett is allowed to hug me once, but no ass grabbin buddy! :D

I'm keeping close watch on my underwear inventory!

Any Polk women showing up for this other than TLW (The Lovely Wendy)?

Also, I'm toting alot of my camera gear with laptop to record any and all happenings at this event. Anyone else bringing a camera? I'm planning on posting all of the photos (after I edit them) to my photography website so everyone can take what photos they want.

2 months and counting....

Troy- AMEN.

John Strong is my co-pilot for the trip down to SC....anyone else need a ride? Russman may or may not be on-board, depending on what airport he flies into. I have a single seat available in the rental car.

What about lodging?...get that stuff secured now folks, it's not New Years Eve, but why wait?

I'm not doing any last minute sidetrips, or late pickups, so get your head out now.

That's when it really starts getting good. Troy, just stock plenty of high tone root beer, he'll be fine.

Menu??

Friday night, we'll probably do a Frogmore Stew or some such. (this is not really a stew, it's shrimp/sausage/corn/taters boiled in an Old Bay/Lemon/Beer broth. Drained and served with a garlic/wine sauce)

Saturday: BBQ. We are going to have a half (maybe whole) hog BBQ'd on site. 25lbs or so of Big Flo tater salad and the rest of the trimmings.

I'm sure that we'll have a keg, maybe two and a few handles of Beam.

That's the major stuff for chow....I'm sure we'll throw in some more goodies as time goes on.
