looking for a great theater experience?

My advice: If you have a great theater near you -- you know, one with a big big screen and a superb sound system -- that happens to be playing the new release of "Apocalypse Now"... GO SEE IT. Even if you're intimately familiar with the old version, soldier, you need to see this one.

Last night, Polk PLM Al Baron & I (not on a "date" or anything) saw this at the glorious Senator Theater in Baltimore, and if you're anywhere within driving distance of this theater, by all means make the drive while AN is playing.

It was the kind of experience that makes me miss going to the theater: superwide screen, pristine print of the film, mindblowingly superior sound system (that had even a seasoned pro like Al ducking from the incoming fire!), and [almost best of all] a packed house of 900 civilized (no cell phones!) fill fanatics who, for the most part, didn't disrupt the show.

And the film... WOW. Could this be the last great American epic film? Say what you will about war flicks like "SPR" or "Platoon," nothing puts you in the mud and confusion and surreal nightmare like "Apocalypse Now."

I highly recommend this movie-going experience. If you see one film in the theaters this season, this has to be it.

I was supposed to go last Friday night to see it at, yes, the glorious Senator Theater, but my family members bailed on me.

This weekend is going to be it, with or without them.

The Senator is, from what I have heard, one of the 5 best theaters in the country. Without a doubt it is. I have been to what was touted as the best theater in the midwest. It's in downtown Chicago. Went there 2 1/2 years back when Star Wars Ep 1 opened. This theater is no where near the quality of the Senator.

Can't wait to see AN at this historic theater.

The Cine-Capri in Phoenix, AZ, is the only theater I've ever been in that is a rival to The Senator in terms screen size and sound system. Saw "Blade Runner," and all the "Star Wars" films there once in a marathon "Star Wars" trilogy showing!

See "Apocalypse Now," John it'll blow you away.

I bought this movie, the redux, and I liked it alot.
I hadn't watched it for years so I cranked up my system and lost myself for couple of hours.

Great movie I thought, solid soundtrack.

I saw AN in a very large theather, The Paris I think, in Boston when it was first released.. It scared the **** out of me. When the helocopters were coming onto the beach my hands were gripping the the seat rails for all i was worth. I saw it again in a small theather and it didn't have the same impact. Large screen theathers are the best but they are like the dotto bird. Before the last big theather was shut down in Boston I took my Mom to see Larwance of Arabia. Wow the sand, the sand.
