i am looking to purchase polk M50's(floorstanding) with a polk CS1 center and a yamaha rx-v750 receiver. is this a good combination to add to what i already have which is 4 polk R15 surrounds and a polk PSW10 sub. I have been told the center channel is very important. should i go with a CS2? a CSi3? Whats the difference between a CS1 and a CSi3?
HELP!!

I would go with the CS2 purely based on timbre matching. The CSi3 are voiced to match the RTi series and you have the Monitor series. The CS1/2 are both voiced to match your M50 so I would go with the CS2, the better of the two.

i I have been told the center channel is very important. should i go with a CS2? a CSi3? That is correct, the center channel is going to be responsible for handling approx. 70% of the soundtrack in most cases.
The reason timbre matched speakers are so important is that without them your sound stage would sound quite different as the sound moves from one speaker to the next. Depending on the speakers the effect can be very obvious and very distracting. The idea is to establish a system that is seamless as the soundfield moves around the room.
The only thing that I can add is....
with Yamaha receivers being "known" as being on the BRIGHT side of the sound spectrum and some have/would say that the Monitor series tends to be on the bright side of things, too, you might want to consider getting a HK or Denon receiver to mellow things out a bit. Just an suggestion, nothing carved in stone.
Welcome to Club Polk and good luck.

Hi Montreal !!!! Welcome to the forums !!!! :)
I tell you: I have a Yamaha RX-V657, a pair of Polk Monitor 50 as mains, and in the next month i buy a CS1 or CS2 (not big difference between both) and maybe a pair of Monitor 30 for surrounds.
For me, and a lot of people, this model of Yamaha sounds GREAT. The sound is more bright than others, it's true, but NO TOO MUCH BRIGHT ... dont confuse !!!!
I like the sound a bit bright, and Yamaha give me this. My configuaration in 2 ch. direct stereo is: Treeble: 0 db - Bass: +2.0 db. and sounds great. If you don't like the sounds bright, try with Denon.... OR put in the Yamaha Treeble: -2.5 db and bass: 0 or 0.5 db, and sounds very natural.
Befere buy this receiver I tried models of Denon and Pioneer. i feel the Yammie sounds better than other in Movies (especially for the DSP and YPAO configurations) and same quality as Denon in Music with adjusting the tone controls. Better than Pioneer.
Try yourself. Listen all brands...and decide. ;) Bye

i am starting to get it. the cs2 is better than the cs1 for monitor 50's, right? i read somewhere that the woofers should be the same size between mains and center.....m50's its 5.25" and cs1 its 5.25". for the cs2 its 6.5". is this a problem?
also.........is the difference between the m50's and the m60's worth the upgrade?

For me, sounds more clarity the Monitor 50 than monitor 60. I.M.H.O. ;)

I would go with the Monitor 60s personally... better than the 50s I think. The higher you go for mains, the better because:
1. It avoids futures upgrades.
2. It allows for better music listening in pure stereo.
What's the price difference between the 60s and 50s?

i wouldn't buy the cs2 if you're using the monitor 50 or 60. Different size woofer/different crossover/different tonal characteristics.
if you're using a sub, save your money. Get the 50's and the 1.

Here is my new recommendation:
- Go for the CS1 unless you end up with the Monitor 70s. If you go with 50, 60 - get CS1. If you go for 70 - get CS2.
- Between the 50 and 60, I would no doubt go 60s. The 60s are crossed slightly lower and among 3 woofers. This means more bass (which Andrew (aarharvel) is addressing with a sub), more midrange solidity, and more details (the tweeter gets to push itself slightly lower). I would go 60s.
Once again, how much (price) are you able to get the 50s vs the 60s?

Really ??? I suposse the sound quality is the same (grat) in two. But i consider CS1
I agreed with you in ... Buy a Monitor 50 if you have a sub. The Monitor 60 has more punchy. like a "little" sub inside (The third driver).

Done and done...
If you were looking at Circuit city, you were probably looking at a $400 for the pair of 50s.
Here is the link to Tweeter (free shipping or you could pick it up instore), the Monitor 60s for $375.

Go with the 60s, they sound much better all the way around than the 50s. You can't beat the price either :D

I would go with the the Cs1 would match your speakers better. If you do decide to go Cs2 I know where you can get one.

i'm not a fan of the MOnitor line at all, but for $350-400, Monitor 60's are just an outright steal. it would be absurd to spend $25 more for the Monitor 50, an inferior speaker.

CS1 for the M60/50.... CS2 for the M70. The reason for this is the size of the woofers, you want perfect timbre matching, or atleast as close to perfect as possible.
GO WITH 60s!!!

What is your opinion about PSW 10 ??? (You have it) ... Im think buy one in the next months. Tell me your review about this sub !!!!
In the fight Monitor 50 vs Monitor 60, i think if you have a sub to complement Monitors 50..sounds great....maybe better than Monitor 60 with sub. IMHO. Bye

Monitor 60 and PSW10 is better than Monitor 50 and PSW10.
Why?
At under 2.3khz, you get much more from the Monitor 60 as opposed to the Mon50.
