yeah i'm looking forward to the Alison Krauss. I was tempted to get the studio versio of "New Favorites" but the live version was 2-disc and only $5 more, plus had alot of old favorites of mine from Oh Brother.

My only concern was the "live" part. Most mixes sound better in the studio imo- but alot of the reviewers said the quality/steering of the DSD mix was good and the crowd was kept in check, so to speak.

I'm actually looking forward the "Absolute Sound" by Telarc sampler the most. I've heard from many that this disc is the DSD process at its pinnacle.

i will say this- these discs aren't cheap. The first time i've bought SACDS via internet and i was expecting much lower prices. Oh well..

AK Live is excellent, these musicians really dont need multiple takes to get it right. One of my favorite SACD.

sure thing Toxis. I'm a big fan of Sarah B. I saw her live in '89 w/ Michael Crawford at a Philly showing of Phantom on Broadway. I think she's amazing.

the only thing was- both her SACD's are extremely expensive. $30 a piece. geez.. but i took the bait anywhoo.

bump.

alrighty got all the SACD discs today.

quick rundown:

-The Dan Gibson Solitudes Thunderstorm SACD is unreal. A great disc for relaxation/meditation. If anyone liked the scene in Saving Private Ryan when the rain started to fall, this disc makes that sound like a used cassette.

-Both Sarah Brightman SACD's- La Luna and Time To Say Goodbye: again, awesome.. if you like that sort of music. The recordings are wonderful, particularly Time To Say Goodbye, which includes the London Symphony Orchestra.

-The Telarc Sound & Vision Sampler- well... it really is a sampler. Not to sure if i'm digging it or not. It's got a lot of unorthodox jazz cuts on it- but it's alright.

-The Telarc Absolute Sound Sampler- GREAT classical music disc! The Monague/Capulet theme from Romeo Juliet- this is the best rendition i've ever heard of this song. And that's saying something since i thought it was done justice on the Classical Thunder CD's from a decade ago. On the back of the SACD, Telarc says it's mixed ENTIRELY in the DSD realm, beginning with the masters. I did some homework on this- and most SACDS start out in the DSD realm, then converted to PCM, then back to DSD. Weird.

The Allision Krauss Double Live set sounds unbelievable. Live or Studio, it's one of the best mixes i've ever heard in my life. Just as good if not better than Eagles Reunion II tour on DVD-V. That was my reference but not anymore.

-(edit)- The Henry Mancini Ultimate Collection is very good as well. It's mixed superbly and the Moon River cut sounds just so damn smooth. At first I thought it was a DVD-A disc, because it comes in that kind of jacket. Oh well.

-I ordered two more discs- Sheryl Crow's Globe Sessions and another one of Dan Gibson's Solitudes discs- Ocean Surf. I'm really looking forward to that one.

....So i've almost doubled my SACD collection in less than 2days. Not cheap, but I don't care. You can tell on all of these discs that the producers and mixers took great pride in their work, much like the LP's of the 60's and 70's.

As for the format, well i've fallen back in love with it, and i'm going to do my part in supporting it. I've heard that the PS3 will include SACD capability- this might be the one thing the format needs to finally puncture the mainstream. Or maybe it never will, who knows?

I'm hoping for the best and have a renewed since of optimism. People just don't know what they're missing out on.

Either of those two, or perhaps SACD recordings will become inferior in comparison to today's since (hypothetically speaking) the average SACD listener is going to be using a P3. Just a third option.

Glad you're enjoying your new SACDs!

I own that Solitude's disc, actually I own a couple of them. I use the Thunderstorm one every night but the g/f loves the Ocean Surf. There's also the Tao which is pretty good and the Samba Beach (Ocean surf with an acoustic guitar playing samba style) which is pretty relaxing!! You'll enjoy the ocean surf though... it's good stuff.

The Globe Sessions is recorded so well that all the flaws in her band show up almost too often. The finger slides and fretwork almost seem too loud and distract from her singing, but it definately conveys the feeling of a live session taking place.

I listened last night upon reading about Sheryl's cancer surgery. Good stuff.

ElusiveDisc.com is one. CircuitCity.com also has about 1200 sacd/dvda discs available.
