View Full Version : Changing Amplifiers Binding Posts

I have an Onkyo Integra M-504 Power Amplifier which uses cheap plastic binding posts. This limits the use to using a bare wire going into the amp. Anyone who owns (or had owned) this amp knows exactly what I mean. For a power amp of this caliber, its a shame to see Onkyo skimp on the speaker connections.
Does anyone have any advice on what are pretty good binding posts to replace on these amps ? I want something that sounds full and lifelike.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks much !!!

I have the same problem with my Hardon/Kardon amp. It had the screw type wire connectors, but the hole in the middle does not do all the way through, so banana clips cannot be used. Not cool man, not cool.
Oh the things we get upset over...

Hi,
Can you make a breakout box? If you can remove the binding posts, throw some rubber grommits around the holes to protect the wires feeding through, then directly feed the outputs into a small external unit that you can put better sockets on. Poof! Nice if you can also design them to be removable, (ie. put a junction between the amp and the box, depending on how audiophilic you wanna be).

You certainly can, but why? My experience with binding post and RCA replacement has shown that the wires and sub-assemblies, for those parts, are often not very long in the first place. I think a removeable junction box, for your everyday speaker is an even worse idea. However, if you DIY, removeable and hot swap capable assemblies make all the sense in the world.
If you're going to do it, just replace the stock binders with something of quality and be done with it. Unless it's a vintage piece of gear, it should only help with resale and be a positive upgrade.
Good luck.

Hi,
I have the same issue with my 504 but cannot find any binding posts made for a AMP. The 4 factory BP can be removed with no problem but I just find single BP and not 4 in a set like they are on the back of the amp.
Any idea where I can get 4 BP together?
THANKS

Any decent electronics store sells good 5-way binding posts.

Remove your old ones. Make sure that the new one fit in the hole. Install the new ones. Solder the connections/wires, and you're done. Very easy to do.
