I have rt800i's, cs400i, SVS 25-31 sub..pio Elite 54 tx powering them

My obvious weak link are my Bose surrounds...

I am eyeing a pair of F/X 300i's on Ebay right now..

My question is...does it matter that much that the rears (5.1 setup) match the fronts?

The f/x 500i has the exact same size drivers as my other speakers..the 300i has a smaller mid....

or if I decide to get newer surrounds, will that be a mistake considering my speakers are the older rt /cs variety?

The 500i's are going to be a truer match because of the trilam tweeter. However, the 300i's would definately be closer than your Bose, and they will propably be a better match than new FX's.

You could always pick up the 300i's and keep an eye out for 500i's.

Another option is a pair of bookshelves from that line - 25i's or 35i's.
