"The x-ls monitor...the first loudspeaker in the x-series by AV123, designed from the ground up by Mark Schifter and Danny Richie, with one main goal in mind - to take over the world. No wait...that's a different website...the goal is to be, bar none, the best loudspeaker ever created under $200. The x-ls is the result of these efforts and we're pleased to announce that we reached our goal."

I've got a pair with the sub on the way. I'll be featuring these at the March 18th Lone Star Bottleheads meet. This is the one that's going to blow the entry level market away, period. $400 for a pair with subwoofer. Optional Rosewood, and Piano Rosewood finishes will be available (at increased cost).

Cheers,
Russ

While I'm not knocking the speaker (quite the contrary, I want to hear them) nor the review, per se, did you happen to see what the reviewer is using for associated gear??

Pfffffffffffft.

It's right up Johnny's alley.

I am not big on Audioholics. For the XLS to actually gain some praise is saying something... as they typically skip by good sound and go straight for the measurements.

I got a maple pair on the way to go with a maple UFW-10. As Russ said - these are going to completely blow away the entry level market... While I am no fan of 'made in china' products, these are just too good to pass up.

edit: One thing to bear in mind is that these speakers are being offered at a price that most people can afford. As you would expect with that market - people will be using them with cheaper receivers and dvd players. The way I see it, its not without reason to review a product on par with what the average consumer will use. In time we will see some impressions popping up with those who have the opportunity to hook these up to some real high-class equipment - to see how the XLS strut their stuff...

Certainly looks like an interesting new budget line.

Lack of grills may be a non-starter for those with kids and pets.

Also, I wonder if they have a dedicated center in the works.

What's the connection to ONIX? I've heard ONIX products and I can't say I like them. But, considering what consumer they are shooting for maybe they are worth it. I'd love to hear those up against my Athena's just for sh*ts and grins.

H9,

I *believe* the Onix part of av123 is owned and designed by Mr.Pu, Mark's business partner.

They do have a center in the works.

A friend of mine had the GR AV1s and says these look like clones. Currently, he has the AV2s X5 and I think they are outstanding (limited experience acknowledged). Very interested in these guys.

Any news on these yet? Interesting for a bedroom setup or something.

Sure did, featured them at the Bottlehead meet at my house last weekend. I plan to do a write up, still trying to get 100 hours on them (especially the subs) before doing any formal review.

I'm eager to read your review, Russ. At this price, the subs could make a very nice dual setup in a 2-channel system.
