View Full Version : The Sopranos
Is there anybody else here who can't wait for the new season of the Sopranos. Man it has been a long time. I know they have disapointed some with the long hiatus and the content of the last year but I am really looking forward to what I hear will be a real shoot 'em up return season. When that music hits for the first time it will be the end to a very long wait.
By the way Pauly Walnuts is a SOPA member:D

I loved the Sopranos the first few seasons, then I just watched them hoping something would happen. That's still the case. I make a special trip over to a friends house and watch them with him. So far, the Sopranos have progressed into disappointment. I hope this new season has a little bit more action...cos frankly I don't give a crap what Tony and his shrink have to talk about.

Too much product placement... that's the only gripe I had about the episode. Let me see how much I remember:
Porsche and Masserati (that wasn't so bad)
Cingular (that was pretty blatant)
Motorola
there was something else... it was just awkward cause it was almost like saying "hey, here's a shot for this product and has nothing to do with the story".

No seriously I thought it was way over the edge, anyone notice the Porn plug-in? Yeah I was like man can they add anything else to this show? Hey how about Carmela holding up a can of pledge and saying how nice all of her furniture looks by using it.
Oh yeah with all the faults the show was pretty damn good.

Come on Fella's you gotta admit when that music kicked in for the first time it was pretty effin great:D. Pretty decent show. I understand that they have to set things up and bring people up to speed. I have to admit the last 3 minutes was pretty intense. My two favorite scenes were 1) Bobby in the engineers cap and 2) Tony on the scales shedding gear and reweighing himself and when he hits 280 he kind of smirks and gives himself a small personal thumbs up. I kind of like my mob guys to have a human side.:).
Lets hope they keep it rolling.

I noticed the same thing and commented to my wife about it. It was getting pretty bad last season but this episode was horrible. I was getting tired of hearing him slurping and breathing!
And anyone else notice that all the women in this show are BEEYOTCHES!

Aagghhh, the dream sequence!!!
The last Sopranos dream sequence that I enjoyed was the one with the talking fishhead (I think that was after Big Pussy went "swimming").
I understand that this season needs time to develop, but man, last night's episode could have been cut down to about 5 minutes.
I did like how AJ tells coma-Tony that he's going to kill Junior. That could lead to some nice gangland war if the New Jersey crew assumes that it was Johnny Sack's crew in NY.
Anyway, HORRIBLE episode last night..... but I'm still hooked on The Sopranos.

I had to keep checking in the beginning to see if I was watching some rerun or had missed something, his daughter is pathetic looking she is battling anorexia according to my MRS. She needs to get her lips around some Whoppers.
Yea, Tony needs to get up and get a good looking girl to get Carm all fired up again and call her B/F back from whereever he went, Dang I wonder if they will let me write the show!!!!!!!!! The scumbag in prison needs to get hit by one of Tony's old guys who is locked up and thinks what's his name ordered a hit on Tony, this will start a "family" war, come on I hope it gets better.

I think they feel that they have a little bit of goodwill built up and they can take some time and develop a story line. I hope thats what it is. I also think they want to be thought of as more than just a mafia show. Maybe they have been reading to much of their own press. I'm pretty sure that we have not seen the last of the Columbians. Are you guys watching the same show?
Honestly, Ep 2 wasn't great, but I thought this one was really good. They spent maybe 10 minutes in Tony's dream sequence, the rest was your typical Sopranos. It's not all shoot em up mindless bull, it rarely is, otherwise it woudl be like every other nonsense show on TV. The reason the Sopranos is good is because they mix realistic drama with the mafioso action.
You guys musta been watching some other show for the past 5 seasons. Or do you jsut go get snacks everytime someone's not gettin' shot in the face?

Come on Bob, you don't think that the show has changed last season and this season? While I understand and agree that the Sopranos is different and thats what makes it special, I also see a change in the way they pace the show and the character development. I enjoy seeing the main characters portrayed as real people (mental illness, asthma) but I also enjoy a show that doesn't have me looking at my watch. I will admit though, that my expectations may be too high and that may be skewing my judgement. Well I guess we will see how it all plays out. I guess I can get my violence from 24 if I have to;)

They are definitely building up suspense so far this season. You saw some true colors come out last night with Paulie not wanting to give Carmela any of her "cut." The entire ice on the balls was too funny. The irony of his balls getting busted and how big of balls did he have to stand up to Sil for a few moments.
Sil's stress at being the temporary "boss." A real world situation there that we can all relate to when we have to step up in our own personal lives. On a side note... who the heck drinks coffee on the crapper??
That last scene with Tony going to the "hotel." The imagery of "giving up the suitcase" like giving up his life. He held on tight.
I wasn't an English major in college but vaguely remember some of the things that I learned that the Soprano writers are putting into the show. Metaphors, imagery, irony, vicarious events... It isn't all about blood and guts all of the time and that is why the show is so great and loved by all types of people.
Things are about to come to a head for sure. The suspense is definitely there.

2) Tony got shot and had a stupid dream
3) Vito is gay
4) Paulie found out about his mom
5) Vito is gay
6) Bush is responsible for Hurricane Katrina
7) Vito is gay
Why dont they change the name of this to "The Vito Show"?

I agree that tonight's show was another slow one. Seems the shows are rotating from Boring... Interesting...boring...etc...
I thought that tonights show was more of a comedy. The dialogue and the way it was written had me laughing a couple of times. The scene with Finn and the boys at the butcher shop was hilarious. The indignation and what theses guys find offensive and what they give a pass to is fun to watch. But they could start the mobster stuff anytime and that would be allright.

04-17-2006, 04:47 AM
I agree tonights show was comedic. I did enjoy the levity of it though. Things are running a tad slow so far this season, but they are setting the stage. I watched a piece on the show and the creator wants to take the charachters to a very logical end place based on the choices in their lives. I think the train will derail violently in the coming months. They are slowly seeding a great deal of dissent into the families. There are some deep divisions of opinion on very fundamental concepts. I think the slow developing first couple episodes are leading to some violent dissention within the families.
I sure hope so. :)

Last night was slow, but funny. I laughed out loud when the crew found out that Vito was the catcher, not the pitcher, in the Jeep with the security guard.
Anyway, the only reason I can think of as to why they're focusing so much screen time on Vito, is becase maybe Vito will somehow make a preemptive strike at Tony and/or one of the Captains?? He knows that he's got a bullseye on his back, so why not??
Anyway, like most of the other seasons, it starts off with slow development, then ends with a bang.

You may only watch it for one reason, but I doubt the whole world agrees with you. What a load of crap the Godfather must have been for you, having to watch all of those boring scenes with relationships and non-gangster shit. THe reason the Sopranos set themselves above the pack was because they presented their "gangster shit" in an "artistic" and interesting way. Any schmoe can slap togehter a bunch of retards with New York accents and guns and keep a monkey entertained for an hour a week, it takes a little more to acutally make a good show.

The Godfather was one of the best movies of all time! It also didnt devote half of the movie to a 300 pound homosexual and showing him in a Village People outfit making out with some dude!
Nor did it waste 30 minutes at a time on some stupid dream sequence that never makes any sense. Talking fish?
And yeah, the Sopranos started out with an artistic view on gangster shit, which is cool because it was still about ganster shit! Now its Brokeback Goombah!
And yeah, I get that the whole world doesnt agree with me. But that doesnt mean I shouldve voice my bitches with the show. Nobody is saying this show sucks, just that these first few episode arent living up to the standards set by the previous 5.

I too was sad to see Chris go. I always liked him. He gives us hotheads someone to look up to! :D
As for AJ trying to drown himself, I wish he had succeeded. I have hated this kid since the first episode. I can watch Meadow because she is just STUPID HOT but I get irritated just looking at the whiney AJ.
I hope they dont end it with Tony getting killed. Im personally hoping for Phil to get it. He's turned into a huge dick lately.

So if I'm right there are 2 episodes left ? I saw this Sunday's where AJ goes off the Deep end !
My guess is Phil is sick of Tony's crap and takes Tony out ! Or Tony is sick of everything and leaves the Mob.

I hope they don't go that route. I'm looking for the big mob war.
