It seems the same stock issue still going on. I thought MS supposed to take care of the supply issue last month?

There are places on the internet who claimed to have stock, but the bundling price came with games that may or may not be on anyone list.

Anyone bought an XB360 this month paying the barebone price? (i.e. $299 for Core and $399 for Premium)

Check this out,

http://bensbargains.net/xbox360/xbox360.php

It looks as though Circuit City has a bundle with which you can remove the games. Check it out. Really, at this point, I would just get a bundle. Resell the games on ebay once you are done playing them. There are only a couple 360 games that I would totally regret owning. The rest have been pretty outstanding so far.

I have become one picky bastard when it comes to games, so I want to avoid the bundle package. Right now I just want Ghost Recon. :D I'll continue the hunt tonight as I have nothing else planned.

thanks for the offer, but I rather wait for the 360 version. I am getting into the bad habit of collecting games for PC and not playing it. I have both Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam. I thought they were decent.

You and me both man. I have a ton of great PC games to play, but the draw of the controller and gamerpoints always wins over a mouse and keyboard.

FWIW, when I go out, I can't find any consoles in store. Then again, I live right around Xbox HQ, and I think the demand is a little higher around the epicenter. I could be wrong though.

I was just in Costco and they had a bunch there (premium + controller + a game). I saw some at Circuit City on Sunday (5 premiums, 4 core). And there were a few Core systems at targets, and best buy last week. I think they will be easy to find in 2-4 weeks.

polkatese,
I wanted to get the Xbox360 for my son(not to mention I wanted it) at Christmas time. They where sold out as fast as it came out. Then it was offered here in the Flea Market and I had the chance to buy it. The wife didn't want me to get it just yet due to the killer amount of money we just spent on Christmas shopping etc. So I waited some more and it started to bother me. Certain stores got a few in but only core systems. I have no desire to own a core system. The HD system is much more worth the extra 100 bucks it costs. So I waited some more. I few of my friends own it and told me all about it.As cool as it is, there isn't much to play on it. Just by looking at the current game selection, this is true. I play Mechassault all the time and the xbox360 can't play that title along with many others from the orignal Xbox. You have to download all these patches just to get the damn games to play. That sucks even more. I didn't plan on keeping our orignal Xbox and adding in Xbox360. But even that I'd be somewhat ok with. I don't know if you can have 2 xbox systems with 1 on live account. At one time we had 2 xboxs to run system links and some of my friends and my sons friend would play here in my house.

After all that CC just released that they have some. I got off work and CC is right around the corner. I pulled up in there parking lot with full intent to buy the Xbox360 and I thought about it for a minute. I desided to go home without it.Why??

I have decided to wait awhile. I still completely enjoy the quality of the orignal Xbox, the game look great. There are many of them and I still play Mechassault on live daily. I have a huge group of friends on there that we all get together and play. I'm also hoping that Microsoft will start shipping 360 HD units with all the nessary patches so you can run your favorite Xbox titles in it. Playstation 2 didn't need patches to run playstation 1 games. But why this one needs it is ok but at least include the most popular games. Mechassault ruled the live gamming and was #1 for years. Game of the year and everything. Why no patch for that is way behond me. If that patch was avalible, I would own the 360 right now.

If you don't plan on waiting to own it, don't get a core system. It's now worth it unless you plan on connecting to a non HD tv.Even then to me is still not worth it.

Good luck man,

Dan

Dan, what's up? I actually already owned a 360 since Christmas (it was Christmas present for my son), and we've enjoyed playing it on the HD bigscreen. We have two games so far: COD2 and PDZ. COD2 is THE game, we enjoyed so much, played it till the end. It was a true Christmas present for him and me, since we were able to spend quality time. The next game that I am looking at is Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfare. If you are on the fence on 360: don't! go get it. It is a fun box, not to mention MP3 streaming interface to my HT. Cool box!

Its all speculation at this point, but they are supposed to be either very expensive to the buyer or to Sony (as in they'll take a huge loss per console sold) or a combination of the two.

Demiurge
03-16-2006, 10:46 AM
I'll probably end up buying one of those in addition to my recent XBox 360 (LOVE IT) purchase. That way I don't have to get into the which is better arguments. :p

here is a blurb on the price guidance, not much help, unfortunately:

The PlayStation 3 console can be used as a Blu-ray DVD player, but will also read previously released PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, Kutaragi said. It will also have a 60-gigabyte storage drive, broadband and wireless Internet connections and support for high-definition televisions.

The company is expecting monthly production of 1 million machines, and targeting production of 6 million units for the fiscal year ending March 2007, Kutaragi said.

The significance of the Blu-ray DVD technology in the console could not be ignored, analysts say. At stake are billions of dollars in royalties from movie or game providers that will use the format.

Blu-ray is competing against another high-definition disc format called HD DVD, backed primarily by Toshiba Corp. Both formats are making their product debuts this year.

As electronics makers, including Sony, plan new Blu-ray DVD machines, the PlayStation 3 is considered a way for Sony to sneak the Blu-ray format into households that may not necessarily be ready to buy a separate Blu-ray player.

So with the new PlayStation 3, consumers would get not only the latest game console, but also the latest DVD technology, for a price that Sony has said will not exceed $500.

So, $499.99, eh? :p

polkatese
03-16-2006, 11:10 AM
yep. with 60gb HD and Blue Ray, I think it's a good product pricing strategy. I am sure it will come with HDMI too, DTS-HD, DD-HD, component.

What is the chances HD-DVD strike first and make a significant progress before November? I think it's pretty slim. So, a $500 player to test drive a format? with a bonus of PS game console? not a bad proposition.

Btw, at this rate, I can see the market price would be closer to $600+

I think and hope so. But my point is, for average joe, given the format war, a $500 investment for a HD player should not cause them to lose sleep, if it went south.

Clearly, this assumption and logic DO NOT apply to us, Freaks! :)

As far as online, I haven't had the drive to do it there, hell, I've been spanked badly in single mode, don't want to be the first fallen comrade in the team...

It looks like Sony is betting the farm on the PS3. Sony has lost a lot of $ in the last few years and Playstation is the only profitable segment of their business right now. They better come correct and price it right or they are screwed. I do hope that Sony can pull it off. If they cant, MS will be the only game in town for a long time as no other company will want to enter the console market against MS. MS wants to run everything and integrate it all so that you must buy thier products.

Sony gets a bad rap as of late but if they are a demon company, MS is the Devil incarnate.

As for Xbox 360, one reason that they are not available is because of faulty units. MS rushed to market to beat Sony and released beta versions of the 360 in the market. A friend of mine is in the wholesale procurement business and ordered 10 360's from a large distributor he works with. They could not supply the 10 units because out of a million 360's shipped 800,000 were returned before they hit store shelves.

Although it has been well documented that MS has had issues with certain chips and certain suppliers, I find it REALLY hard to believe 80% of the 360s made had to be reworked after being shipped from China.

venomclan
03-22-2006, 11:24 AM
The 800,000 were from a shipment the distributor was working with. It could have been limited to that shipment, not 80% of the total units shipped worldwide. It would not be the first time that this has happened with MS or many other companies. Time was the most important for MS. Remember they took a loss on the first Xbox throughout its life and are taking a loss on this one too. The Xbox is a loss leader to gain market share and force Sony out of the game in the long run. They have $ to burn and can do this tactic while Sony does not.

"Sony gets a bad rap as of late but if they are a demon company, MS is the Devil incarnate."

I totally agree with you on this. I am a Macintosh fan, however I love My X-Box. I guess what I would like to say is that I like a system for simplicity of use and not only does my Mac computer and my X-Box provide me with that but My HK receiver DEFINATELY holds its own in this arena. The PS have always seemed to feel cheep and unsubstantial to me. I mean look at how small they can shrink the PS1 and the PS2 down to. Its absurd. I like something with some beef behind it. Not something that 2years down the road they shrink to fit neatly on your belt buckle! Even though MS is the DEVIL it still has a small place in my home near my TV, But the MAC will always be my corvette to cyberspace and music.
