I'm sure there's millions of related posts on this, but I'm little anxious at the moment (read, going to bed and want to pick out some amps). For my ID8 D2 v.3 sub (up to 300 rms) and my ID CTX6s (70 rms) ... will it be ok to go with a single multi-channel amp (quality one of course)? I know most will say to go w/separate amp for sub and sep one for speaks ... what do you guys think?

for your purposes, running a 4-channel as 2x70 and 1x280 (bridged) would be ideal... if you can find a 70-90 WRMS x 4 Ch. @ 4 Ohms amp, that should be perfect

I think a multichannel amp would be a great way to go. The thing is to get one that has sufficient output. Kicker had a three channel amp in 05, not sure if they continued it this year. 70 watts x2 or so and 200 or 400 watts to the sub (depending on if you had it at 2 or 4 ohms). You could also just get a four channel one and bridge two of the channels.

I could recommend a great amp for that application ............. :D

Forgot to say, I still plan on keeping my rear speaks but probably run them off the HU vice amp since I don't plan on having them on very often (faded when no rear passengers). So, sounds like you guys are saying it is ok to run sub and two speaks off a decent multichannel then. The 4-channel is what I was thinking. I've followed you guys off and on (Macleod, 1996blackmax, neo, cody, etc.) and you guys have given lots of good advice so what good multichannel should I go for that won't cost an arm and a leg (meaning, $250 or less)? Eclipse, Hifonics, Pioneer, MTX, Profile (budget I know but supposedly good line), etc.????

I would probably go with either an Eclipse or MTX amplifier.

Since I really don't understand well enough the bridging and resulting wattage/ohm factors ... how does this amp look for my purposes?

Eclipse A4000 ... $240

unfortunately, no... for whatever reason, that amp isn't 2-ohm stable in normal operation, so it won't suffice for bridging...

check out www.acaraudio.com, www.cardomain.com, and www.onlinecarstereo.com for quick browsing of lots of options

^ remember that kenstewart has a 2-Ohm DVC sub, so he can do 1 ohm or 4 ohms only...

right... he'd wire the coils in series, loading the amp to 4 ohms... however, for an amp to be stable at 4 ohms bridged, each channel must be stable to 2 ohms on its own... that's what i meant, sorry for any confusion...

you dont need two amps as long as the one you have will handle the speakers and the sub.

Already ordered two MTXs (actually ordered three but gonna sell one of them). One MTX MXA6001 which I'll run two Image Dynamics 8" subs, then one 4-channel (MTX Thunder 684) to run my speaks (Image Dynamics CTX6s). Was looking at a true 3-channel or 5-channel but it got too confusing and hard to find one to match my setup ... not that it couldn't be done, it's I'm just not knowledgeable enough to weed through all the options.
