Checkout his "Choices" album, and guess what instrument is he playing. Piccolo Bass?
"Wood II" is also a great album. I think he is even more talented than Ray Brown...
Highly recommended!

Without a doubt, the most versatile bass player on the scene today! There simply isn't anyone that can play so many types of bass so well. The announcement on the CD that absolutely no guitars were used in the recording of this CD is important, because he tunes and plays those piccolo basses in the register of a guitar and twists off some great solo work any guitar player would be proud of.
Track Nine- Bass Face is the track that blew the mid driver on My SDAs. Extremely tight driving, funk that makes you want to groove.
Being a bass player since the age of 12, I find myself drawn to those that excel on the instrument.
"Choices" is my favorite CD of the past six months. Replacing another of my favorite bass artists, Jimmy Haslip. His solo efforts ARC and Red Heat are worth the price of admission if you haven't heard them too.

Dennis,
before Bromberg, I am not so big on Bass, since there is so much one can do to make it exciting (or in Ray Brown case: "walking bass improv"), but Brian has educate me. As a matter of fact, I've been literally listening to Wood II ever since I got it on Monday. The more I listen to, the more I appreciated it.

His solo rendition on Blue Bossa is amazing! The recording is unbelievably clean, I can close my eyes and instantaneously transcend to ivisualize him plucking the bass.
