We were planning on taking the l train to Chicago tomorrow. How close does it run to Sears Tower. Which line do we take from Bolingbrook..most likely out of Aurora. Thanks. BTW I went to my first Tweeter store. Not too shabby, it had some nice equipment

The Aurora line gets into Union Station. It is less than a 5 minute walk east from Union Station to the Sears tower. If you have time in the loop, I would highly recommend the architectural tour. You can catch those right next to the wrigley building on Michigan Avenue and its a 2 hour boat ride up the Chicago river.

Those boat rides through town are VERY cool......I'd recommend that too.
I have no idea on the trains though.....

If it makes you feel any better bobman I'm staying put and it's snowing right now so a trip somewhere warmer would be nice. The snow is very pretty, larger flakes falling straight down certainly looks majestic, but honestly I'm done with winter here in the upper midwest.

Thanks H9! It was snowing when I left Belvidere this morning, I was hoping it would stop by the time I left the burbs this afternoon and headed back out to Gods Country!

It's just flurries now, the sun keeps trying to peek through. Nothing significant as far as accumulation.

If you're going to be here over the weekend, buy a weekend pass from Metra for the trains. It's $5 for unlimited rides all weekend. As already stated above, you'll need to take the BNSF Metra train into the city. The closest place to catch it from Bolingbrook is in Lisle.

If you have to ask for directions home, make sure you catch the Metra and not the "L" train. Two totally different things. My GF got lost the first time she came to visit and went downtown without me.

Enjoy the city, its awesome, by far better than anywhere else, cept maybe the big apple as far as cities go those two got it way over anybody else.
You must eat all the Chicago pizza you can, it is the best in the country bar none the best, supreme, trounces all over the others, the trump card. Also their roast beef sandwiches are incredible.
There is so much to do, the museum and shed aquarium, the loop itself, navy pier well have a great time, OK, I am making self homesick. Then I think about the cold, brrrrrrrr...................

You must eat all the Chicago pizza you can, it is the best in the country bar none the best, supreme, trounces all over the others, the trump card.By far the best pizza I've ever had has been from The Pie in Salt Lake City, Utah.......GIANT size pizza's and a boatload of toppings. Anyone traveling through there should stop by and get one.

Gino's East will be toasted, and I mean completely smoked by Lou Malnatti's. I would never go back to Gino's after Lou's. The finest Chicago pizza, bar none.

Thanks everyone, we decided to drive. Not to bad going but man oh man coming back. Averaged about 20 from Chicago all the way to Bolingbrook. Last time I was here was 12 years ago. Things have changed. Just had pizza tonight and am extremely stuffed...

Where is that???? I've been to Gino's East a few times, and find it hard to believe it could be beaten.
EDIT: Nevermind I found their website. Next time I'm in town I'll try it out.
IMO NYC and Chicago are about a dead tie for best Pizza. But NY has best city in US title hands down.

Lou Malnatti's is at Wrightwood & Lincoln -- about four blocks from my apartment. I like Giordano's the most for Chicago style stuffed.

nY pizza sucks compared to Chitown, forget the fold, now my favorite NY deli went with the towers, that place could make a patrami like nobody's business. Great cities no doubt and you can get anything you want anytime.

Sorry for the late reply - but in regards to the BEST pizza in Chicago no one(HINT), and I mean no one(OK, so there are TWO - BIG HINT) beats the original that the rest have been imitating. Pizzaria Uno & Pizzaria Due - downtown locations ONLY.
Lou Malnatti's, Gino's, Gino's East, Suparossa, Nancy's, & Giordano's all trace their roots back to UNO's. Chefs were stolen from UNO & DUE to work for the other guys over the years. IMHO they are all great but the other's just modified or put their own spin on the original. In this case the original is still the best. As with audio - it all starts at the source! ;)

I'm amazed at the number of Chicago area polkies coming out the woodwork. WIth pizza opinions to boot. We need to have a get together - at Lou Malnatti's - the best pizza place to boot.

I agree they all are excellent, but Gino's in my opinion is still the best but it's a tough choice. I have fond memories of going there with my parents as a young kid, it was highlight for me whenever we would visit DT Chicago. As I've gotten older when I go DT we tend to go to the trendier restaurants. I think it's time to go to Gino's again, it's been about 4-5 years since I've been there. Here in Rockford luckily we have a Giordano's and that's where I get my Chicago pizza fix.
The Food Nework just did a special on pizza and I can't remeber which 2 Chicago Pizzaria's were included, but the host at the very end admitted he liked Chicago style the best and he grew up in New York.

I also like Connie's and Uno's. There used to be a Connies's and Uno's real close to us on 59 out here in Aurora but both closed down. Love the deserts at Uno's, good eatin.

Connie's is a good joint too.Connie's is good - I've only been to the one near the Cell.
If you can't see the resemblence between them (Lou Malnatti's, Giordano's, & Uno's) then you must be blind :confused:. Channel 11 - WTTW (PBS) did a piece about the history of pizza in Chicago. Uno's was the first and ALL the others were born from it. You don't have to like it (or the pizza) - that's just the way it is. :p

You guys are killing me, you have any idea how crappy the pizza is in Ga? The friggen stuff you buy in the store is better.
I remember this little pizza joint on 79th between Western and Kedzie on the South Side, it was called Palermo's, just a little joint, man I loved that stuff as a kid. Oh well.

Yep they do. One grocery store here in my area carry Gino's, Lou Malnatis and Uno in the frozen section. Not anywhere near as good as fresh, but certainly better than just about any other frozen pie, expensive too. I could get a Giordano's fresh from the restaurant for a few bucks more ;) .
