This is a tough choice. Almost a toss-up IMO. Pat...no Ann...well, maybe Pat. Ok...Ann. Better range was the tiebreaker.

i had to pick Ann Wilson. only because i think she has a more gravely voice.. it's more rock oriented.. while Pat Benatar's voice is smoother and has more vocal range... it doesn't have that rough, gruff edge to it that's often associated with female rockers.
but yes. both are great singers for rock music.

Both are really good but my vote is for Ann Wilson. I had the pleasure of seeing Heart in concert late 2004 and she blew me away with that voice of hers. Pat is good but her vioce doesnt quite have the effect on me that Ann's voice does.

Tuff choice. I like em both. Ann has a bit more voive tayored towards what I think is good for Rock, but Pat rocks just as well with a different style.
Are they both still singing these days??

The female Robert Plant
That is not a pretty thought.

I like Pat's harsh voice. Brass in pocket, Little drummer boy among others.... sound a little bit like Janis to me.
What I hear in Pat's voice is unique and not the norm. When her songs come on the radio, you know it's her.

Although Pat B is from my hometown, I had to vote for Ann. They both can sing well, but to me, Pat has a more pop music sounding voice, whereas Ann has more of a rock-n-roll voice..
I like Pat's harsh voice. Brass in pocket
Wasn't that a Pretenders' song??? Chrissy Hynde

Too tough a call. Both are great.
To me it's Pat hands down. Ann is good but doesn't have the material Pat has and the voice is a bit too rough, not perfectly rough as Janis'. (IMO of course)

Ann's voice... One thing about her that's always been big.
I like Pat's harsh voice. Brass in pocket...You thinking of Chrissie Hynde?

oops, what a mix up. I was thinking about Chrissie Hynde. In this poll I'd have to choose Ann Wilson.
Too bad how she turned out...

Pat Benatar RULES! Ive been in love with her since the mid 80's! "Invincible" is still one of my alltime favorite songs!

Strong Ann Wilson vote. Heart just kicked ass back in the day. Barracuda, Rockin Heaven Down etc.
Pat benatar has a great voice, but always seemed more pop like to me.

Zen, have you ever seen Heart in concert? I have a handfull of times... yeah they are past their "prime" by many years.. but they can still belt out their classics like no ones biz.
They don't play live much anymore from what I can tell. But every now and then they get that itch to get back on stage and relive the good old days. Like many groups of that era are now also doing.. check em out if you get the chance some time. Well worth it.
