Interconnect question

I bought some inexpensive MIT analog ICs on here a few months ago from Mark, have a question.

I'm going to be using these in my 2 channel system, which consists of the Toshiba 3980, Parasound PH/P 850 preamp, and Teac A-L700P amp. This means I have two sets of ICs in use, one going from source to preamp, the other going from preamp to amp.

My question - which one of these has more impact on the overall sound, is one more of a factor than the other? I have the set of MIT ICs, and another set of lower end Monster ICs - which one should I put where?

Logic tells me that it doesn't matter which I use where, that the bottleneck is going to be the Monster IC, no matter where I use it, but I'm curious.

I would just hook it up both ways and see which I like better and may end up doing that anyway, but it is a PAIN to deal with hookup because of where everything is set up, so wanted to see if anyone here has any advice...or maybe a set of cables that would be a good match with my MIT (like another set of MIT) they want to sell...

My guess would be that you are right. the monsters will be the bottleneck however if it were me I think I would put the MIT's between the Toshiba and the Parasound and let the monsters do the pre to the amp work.

I agree with you -- it probably doesn't matter. If you have a weak link (ughh...Monster IC), it's gonna affect everything else.

I prefer to have the same series of manufacturer when it comes to interconnects.

I think Shack mentioned it in another thread...that if you don't have the same cables in the signal path, how will you REALLY know if they are better or worse? It's all subjective anyways, but at least you will have a given if the cables are all alike.

I have a 1.5 meter set of MIT Terminator I could let go on the cheap cheap.

I've asked this same question to IC manufacturer's and they all had the same answer "Put your best cable between the source and the preamp"

I had this same concern a while back.. got a new high quality interconnect and didn't know where to install it. First I placed in between the CD player and pre amp. Little noticable difference.

Then i installed it between the pre amp and amp. and BAM! that made a big difference. I like using the best quality interconnects i can buy within my budget. Sounds like those MIT's will work well for you if you can also replace the Monster with another set of MIT's.

The reason i prefer to have the best quailty IC between the pre and amp is because that way no matter what source you play, it will benefit from the IC because everything had to go thru the pre amp before it reached the amp.

If you place your good MIT between the CDP and your pre amp, only the CDP benefits from the high quailty MIT IC. As mentioned already... you do want all the same quaility IC's throughout your entire system to match... so that way there is no weak link.
