The local shop has a B&K AV5000 Series I, 105W x 5 amp. for sale. The unit is in absolutely pristine condition in box, no scratches, and no dust better than new. I was thinking to get it to power my FL, FR and C.

My question is:

1. Is this a good amp ?
2. Will I be able to bi-amp my fronts and get 210WPC and run the C with 105W and let my Denon 3806 take care of the surround?
3. Would the B&K AV5000 get hot because of bi-amping?
4. Would there be a noticeable gain in this setup?

Present setup:
Denon AVR 3806 Pre
Rti8’s fronts
Csi5 centre
Rti6’s surrounds
PSW505 sub

Any input would be much appreciated.

Gator :) :)

I can only answer #2....no it is not 210 watts by passive bi-amping..it is 105w to your the top and 105 to bottom....It will probably sound better than not doing it. However, IMO and experience, 210 watt to entire speaker sounds better than the passive bi-amping you are talking about.

Thank for the explanation 2+2. I'm still learning here. :)

I can say from personal trials, a separate amp makes a world of difference. Your Rti8s and Csi5 will thank you for it.
