Just picked up a Dodd MLP from forum member HTrookie earier this week. This particular unit has made several stops among forum members and has now made its final FedEx trip. Being new to tubes I was not sure what to expect but as soon as I hooked it up and played the first CD I new I was hooked! Wow - The music has so much presence, depth and clarity! Not only did the soundstage widen but the depth of the sound stage is incredible with the SDA 2.3'S. The imaging is much better difined and the sweet spot for listening is much larger. I also noticed the highs and lows had a much more realistic tone and the mids were silky smooth. For the past three nights I have been listening none stop and am amazed that the sound improved that much over the SS pre's I have had in the past.
I am currently running the MLP into a Parasound Halo A21 with a Rotel RCD1072 as a source driving the 2.3's. I am now in audio nirvana. Anyone with SDA's owes it to themselves to try out a tube pre.
Thanks Ricardo for hooking me up! It was a pleasure doing business with you.

That is a fine pre amp and Ricardo is a great guy to deal with. I presume you have the Sovtek's in it? Great sounding tube although some rolling could make it better. The Baldwins were not as good in the mids and highs.
Njoy.
It'll get even better when you experiment with different tubes (tube rolling). It's amazing how different each brand sounds
Have fun & congrats! :)

I do have the Sovtek's in now. Ricardo sent the Baldwins as well and from what he said and from the post I've read I figured the Sovtek's were the best bet. Have to do some research to see what others to roll.

Congrats! The MLP is certainly a great preamp. Probably as high up the chain as I'll ever go.

Charles,
I'm glad you are enjoying it; I did; it was time for me to let it go, but I might get something similar in the future. For now, I am enjoying the Dared....when I'm not riding the bike :) :)

Thanks Ricardo for hooking me up! It was a pleasure doing business with you.Gary Dodd,s tube gear is very popular here and he is also very popular on the audio circles website where the new Dodd battery powered tube preamp is causing quite a stir. i have never personaly had a chance to listen to garys gear but the stuff has to be great based on the reactions of others who have listened to it. congradulations! tube rolling can be fun but it can also be quite expensive. i would pm other MLP owners and maybe they can steer you in the right direction. thanks....WCW III
