Hi all,

I'm looking for my 7.1 surround speakers placement.
Here are my options:
1. Side: LSiFXs (dipole), Rear: LSi9s
2. Side: LS9s, Rear: LSiFXs (bipole)

Please advise.

Thanks,
AAT

My HT room is almost square so the distance is not so good.
Distance for option 1:
The side left LSiFX is 7' and the right LSiFX is 14' from the listener. Rear left LSi9 is 1' and the right LSi9 is 1' from the listener.
Distance for option 2:
The side left LSi9 is 7' and the right LSi9 is 14' from the listener. Rear left LSiFX is 10' and the right LSiFX is 10' from the listener.

Thanks,
AAT

Door #1 and set speaker distances in your receivers menu.

most people, myself included, prefer dipole/bipoles on the side, so #1.

I should also mention that the LSi9's were total overkill for HT surround duty and I like having them in a seperate 2 channel rig better than having the rear surround.

I have mine on #2. It works great, my room is square, but the main viewing area is not exactly symmetrical.

9's for surrounds? Seems like a waste, get 7's for rear channels instead.

Another vote for LSiFX's on the side, and 9's for the surround backs.

Another question along these lines. Do the LSiFX's need to be on/near a wall for good performance, or can they do well on stands, away from a wall (I have an open floorplan, so at least one will be far from any wall). I'd welcome any thoughts and suggestions. Thanks, David

Have you thought about LSifx in both locations? (side and surround)

Now that is a very interesting suggestion. I had been thinking about FXs in the side-surround position with LSi7s as rear surrounds, but am still not sure how the FX's will perform with open space, rather than a wall behind them.

I am curious how people with side LSiFXs decide their location. Do you have the front firing woofer/tweeter aimed so it hits the listening spot (so a few feet behind the listener), or did you just move them around until they sounded good? I have LSiFXs in a box in the closet waiting for a bigger room to go in, so am planning ahead for placement... LSi7s will have rear surround duty.

My LSiFXs just arrived about 10 minutes ago, and like yours, will sit in a box until late July when we move. We'll see if I can be patient enough to wait. For more on my speaker saga see this thread, http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54199
I am curious also and would like to hear opinions and how people use the FX's for HT vs. music.
