Ok guys,
I'm back way back into Metal. Since I bought a Guitar, I'm killing the Heavy tone. I would like to find some New metal bands.

I like Disturbed, Alter Bridge of today. Five Speed is ok and I'm researching Nevermore. I'm not a huge fan of The screaming death metal but I like the tone. Can ou guys give me some cool bands to check out???

I used to like Antrax, Metallica, MegaDeath of the past. I know music in Heavy metal has changed a bit and I want to grow with it.I was a 80's heavy metal hair band Mo fo myself like Dokken, Poison, Warrant, Winger, Mr. Big etc.

Today I found Taproot to be very cool. Nickelback is very good but I'm wanting something a bit heavier. Stain'd and Korn are ok.

Help me my Brothers

Mudvayne is bad ass. A band I've grown from lust to love with over the past 4 years is Nonpoint. They're wicked! Hard and heavy but not Pantera or Sepultura heavy. Plus the singer yells without that low grumble sound. "Statement" and "To The Pain" are the two albums to check out. Also don't forget about Sevendust. Zombie (white or rob) are also wicked except for the newest album. It went kinda weak. Marilyn Manson is amazing in the past albums. "mechanical animal" wasn't to bad but a lil softer perse. Enjoy.

If you like Rush, try Coheed and Cambria....they're all super popular now, but still decent. Try anything of theirs. The reason I compare the 2 is only because of Claudio's vocals.

Not sure if I'd really call it metal but if you wanted to go for something a little more.... German, you could try some Rammstein. If you haven't heard them before they're the guys that did the song at the beginning of the movie XXX with Vin Disel. (the crazy ones that play with fire in the club)

I agree with you on that one........but here is my short list...

Killswitch Engage
Sepultura
Fear Factory
Testament
OTEP
ICED Earth
In Flames

I wouldn't consider these guys metal, (slayer defines metal for me) but I think some of the kids today do, I actually own stuff by all these groups and have found myself listening to them all from time to time..

Taproot
Story of the Year
Chevelle
Adema (Older w/ Chavez on lead Vocals, their new album sucks)
Korn
Sevendust
Tool
Lacuna Coil
Deftones
Trust Company
30 Seconds to Mars
Flaw

For something heavy with a little more depth, try Days of the New. Good stuff, but not pure metal.

I picked up Nevermores new cd. It's not bad. I like the first sound the chorus is killer. But the rest of the cd I'm not really cure of. I like the music but the singing is average. I gotta give it more time.

I also picked up Trivium, not my kind of stuff. I don't really like all the screaming singing. The music again is great but these days Metal type bands, why all the Hate deep screaming singing? Sounds like death metal or something.

If you like I could send you a couple samples of bands like mudvayne, tool, killswitch, korn, rammstein, staind, slipknot or some others. This wouldn't be an attempt to support ripping off artists, but more of a demo before you go and spend some more money on cd's. If you don't like that route, check some of the bands out with pandora or something beforehand.

Operation Mindcrime 2? WTH? I LOVE OM but I don't think they should try and make a second. Why...

If you want something you probably won't understand, check out Dimmu Borgir.

Otherwise the usual: Killswitch Engage, Mudvayne, Rob Zombie/White Zombie, fear factory, and Korn (though they're not entirely metal).

Operation: Mindcrime is one of my "desert island" albums. Like, if you were stuck on a desert island and could only take 10 albums with you... I hope the sequel is not just a grab at former glory.

Add to the list Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger and Tool's Aenima, and that gets you midway through the 90's at least.

Mudvayne is great. I have The End of All Thingsand it was "stuck" in my car stereo for several months.

Add my vote for Korn, too, although their first 2 albums are in a higher class than their recent stuff IMO. Follow the Leader ain't bad either. Lately they sound far too polished, in a bad way. All the sharp edges got smoothed off in the polishing. My favorite track of theirs is Ball Tongue, crank that one up and it'll blow your head off.

If you're not afraid to go back a decade, check out King's X. They have some newer stuff that is not very good, but Gretchen Goes to Nebraska and Faith Hope Love are killer albums (desert island quality). Melodic and heavy at the same time. I've seen these guys live about 5 times, they rock. Doug Pinnick is the only guy with vocals that could ever go up against David Lee Roth.

Sorry to keep rambling, but...

I haven't listened to Metallica since the black album came out. They just don't do it for me any more. Hetfield can scream, but he can't sing worth a damn, and these days he's singing. If you want to hear someone with hairy lungs, check out Sevendust. Lajon can sing like you would not believe.

System of a Down is a favorite of mine, although they are an acquired taste for some. I found myself listening to them more and more frequently, and now I listen to them almost every day.

Oh, another blast from the not-so-recent past. Voivod's Nothingface. I love that album. Not sure why. But you might like it.

As mentioned, Queensryche OM II is highly recommended.

If you like Tool, the Parabola and Schism DVD singles are impressive.
