Ok, while I'm waiting on them to come in, I'm contemplating on how to mount them. IB or pods ... which would be the better option for an Explorer Sport Trac cabin?

i'd go pods - better bass response, better sound (you're not firing into the interior of a door, and you don't have reflections from the outside door skin)... you do have to be wary of punching a hole in it, and you might lose some foot space, but in my opinion it's worth it

id say pods too seem like the best way to go about it in your situation

Might have to fabricate my own, but I've never fiberglassed before and they don't make one for the Sport Trac yet. What about using one of those universal pods? Do I just load the speakers and wire, and mount it to the kick panel?

Yes.
They may have one that fits your car. Some people add sound deadener inside....

Id call q-logic and ask if they make one for your car. Im actually going to be getting some from q-logic(employee prcing is the shiz nit) and put my midrange and tweeter in there and keep my midbass in the door to see how it sounds. Ill probably end up buying some for the old ladies civic too and throwing her SRs in there. By next year shell be banging with those, a new sub(tbd), and a fosgate t15004 to power everything.

If you mount them in the kicks you should let them breath into the cavity behind. The more air space the better. A very small enclosure will limit the speaker's low end response.

Agreed. These speakers are designed to work well inside a door which is essentially infinte baffle so you dont want to choke em off with a small enclosure.
Cody - Dave Hogan in MECA has a Silverado extended cab and he runs MBQ 6.5 mids in Q Logic (although heavily fortified), midbass in the doors and tweets in the A pillars and is pretty much considered to be the best sounding system in MECA.

Cool, in the doors is where they'll go. Just got them today but going out of town for a couple days on business so install will have to wait until this weekend. Thanks again guys :)

Dont misunderstand me, door locations are ok and all but for the best SQ and imaging kicks are a better choice. But you give up some legroom and theyre more likely to get stepped on and are a bigger pain in the rear to install so its a tradeoff.

No misunderstanding, but you're on the money about giving up leg room and the likelyhood of them getting kicked or stepped on. I'm sure they'll still sound excellent in the doors.

That they will. Unless youre going to compete or are after the perfect sound stage, door locations are fine.
