Surrounf speaker placement height question...

I read that 6-7' from the floor is a normal height for surround speakers, my question is this, is the 6-7' to the bottom of the speaker? the top of the speaker? Thanks in advance, DJ

Tweeters should be 2-3' above the listeners ear level.

Because of room constrants,I have the bottom edge of our FX500i's six ft. from the floor.

They sound just fine from that position.

ideally, your speakers should be aimed directly at your ears. rear in-wall speakers should be no more than 4' apart from each other directly over you, and your other speakers (front) should be where they hit your ear with no obstructions. many high end amps have a little mic that you can connect and it will measure the room height, walls, ambiance and etc for you so you don't have to measure it manually. a true lifesaving device.

Wrong. Surround speakers should not be aimed at your ears. Doing so will cause the surround channels to be very localized and that is the exact opposite of what a proper set up should do. If you can pinpoint where a surround sound effect is coming from you've done something very wrong.

Using a built in mic and onboard setup program may not be what the doctor ordered. Read the following thread and you'll see what I mean.

Surround sound should be seamless and move around you 360 degrees.
