WOW!!

from a former +2 owner. . .Now I have the isd2 and love it too. . .

I bought my isd2 the last of Feb/early March this year and wanted another +2 but they were back ordered. At the time I was told they were experiencing a few issues with the old driver. I do not know if those issues were availability, function or service. My understanding was (rightly or not) that there were warrenty issues from a bad run of drivers. However in typical SVS style it looks like they came through just fine. . .Now I got the hots for another +2 if for no other reason than to check it out. . .

I have had their passive 2039, the Pb12+2, the isd10 and now the isd2. . . I was absolutly thrilled with every one of them. . . I am finding the isd2 to be just right for my room. . .

how did the plus/2 sound comparing to your isd/2 now? any major different?

how did the plus/2 sound comparing to your isd/2 now? any major different?

The +2 has more energy, punchier (in a good way) very clean and detailed for a subwoofer, no shortage of volume while the isd2 (mine anyway) is my soft spoken friend who is always there when I need him. The isd2 just does what it's supposed to do without fanfare. Sometimes I find myself wondering if she's there until a good bass note comes along and that thought leaves quickly.

The isd2 just sounds different, not bad, actually in some ways I like it more. I hate what I am fixing to say but it is more musical to me that the +2. . . I also had the 2039 with the same driver only a single, also a good sub but in my mind the isd2 sounds different than the 2039 too. . . better. . .

If I could have any sub that SVS built it would be hard to choose between the +2 and the isd2, forget about the Ultra. . we all know it is the king. . .

Drifting a little bit off subject, SVS will be allowing plus owners a chance to upgrade their 12 inch speakers to the new 12.3 version for $99 soon. They are also going to allow you to retain your old driver to use as you wish. SVS's offer can be read here:

So far, non-plus owners are not going to be considered in the special upgrade deal. I am sure that you will be able to buy the speaker for $300+, but so far the $99 deal is for plus owners only.

RS is hinting at a new ISD driver shortly and there have been numerous questions about the viability of using the 12.2 drivers in the ISD tubes and boxes...no replies yet.

It's called the "NSD" driver. . . Check it out. . .

As quoted directly from Tom Vodhanel of SVS Research and Development division:

Don't hold me to this...but I believe we will offer the NSD for $79 for a limited time. You could very likely sell the ISD driver for about the same amount to a DIYer(maybe even more?)...it(the isd) is a very good driver with about 15-16mm of clean excursion. Both the $99 plus12.3 upgrade and the $79NSD upgrade will be for a limited time(probably 30 days---starting in 4-6 weeks). We are definitely losing money on each one of these. So while we want to "take care of" past customers...we cannot support these prices indefinitely..:)

Someone please post in this thread or start a new one if you notice the time has come for our $99 sub upgrade. I will definately purchase the upgraded sub (and post any improvements I do/don't hear).

I was bummed when I heard that an ultra driver would not fit in my sub....

Well, assuming the one selling it is upgrading their current sub to the new driver, I am semi expecting a "good" price on the ISD driver I do buy...

So keep that in mind. ;)

The Plus sub used to be the sweet spot of the SVS line, being (subjectively)far better than the ISD and almost as good as the Ultra. Now with the improved NSD driver that may change. ISD/NSD = greatly improved, Plus 12.2/12.3 = moderately improved. The current Ultra is a moderate improvement over the 12.3. I guess we'll need to stay tuned regarding the new Ultra.

Don't know what the old driver sounded like, but the one kicks butt. I've got blended seamlessly with the ls90's at a notch over 1/4. I can't imagine what would happen at 1/2 turn. I'm off to drop in the port plug to tune to 20hz. If I'm only running 1/4 volume on the sub and blending nicely with the mains, I'm not worried about any DB drop from adding the port.

Top off, plug in, set switch to 20hz. Oh my! Daughter came running in, "turn the sound down!". Mission accomplished. Hmmm, I do have one more plug to go to 16hz...

I will probaly get rolled for this question but I have to ask? What exactly will one gain from upgrading to the new plus drivers? I have money in hand and I'm ready to pull the order but I want to get as much info as I can before I pull the trigger. Would I be better off putting the money towards something else or would it be money well spent for the upgrade? To me and hopefully someone else will explain a little better but I just don't see that much of a gain going from dual 12" subs to dual 12.3" subs. Could someone please elaborate a little more on this subject. Thanks.

From testing and messages with SVS, basically you gain about half (or more) of the performance gap between the Ultra and the Plus. On the NSD, it is equivelent (if not better) to the old + driver.

I went ahead and did it so that I'd have 2 DIY 12'2 or $100/each after upgrade

Grim,

Here is the only spot I have seen a decent review of the two speakers:

http://www.hometheaterspot.com/htsthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/791718/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1/nt/2

The reasoning to make this purchase is that SVS claims that the new speakers have a 1 to 2db increase, better musically, and also have a 3 year warranty on them. So basically, if nothing else, you are extending the warranty of your system by 3 years for $99 as well.

1 by itself won't do a whole lot. With IB, you need a lot of displacement since you do not gain volume/effiency from ports or a passive radiator. Figure volume (loudness) to be similar to a sealed sub of the same size. It would work, but it won't reult in the "OMG" upgrade most get going IB.

Gotcha, I was being a bit dumb. Thought you were implying that you'd use yours alone. 4 should acquit themselves quite nicely.

Ok, here is the respone I received from Ron for verifying which driver you have.

"Matt,

The better way to know is to pop off the grill and shine a light down the port.

If you see a black steel basket then it’s an NSD. If it’s a silver cast aluminum basket it’s the ISD.
