Thanks Michael. I read that SVS has power handling at 350watts. I just didnt want to invest if my little Hafler could do the job.\

What do you have on your cs+?

Now this sub would only be on one channel. So the wattage would only be around 180. I dont know if you understood this.

The CS+ line (both mine and the one linked in the first message) are rated at 500 watts/channel.

I am running 500/channel with 1100 watt peaks from my cinepro amp. (I am sure I am not really putting that much power to the sub, but my amp could bottom the sub)

You would be down about 4-5db from a 500 watt amp with your Hafler. If you are running only one channel it will actually put out a little more power than the 180 it is rated at. Also, that is not taking into account peak power capabilites, and bass is all about peaks.... :)

You will be fine and it will sound great. If you typically listen to a calibrated system at -7db or higher, you will be fine. (with some room to spare)

Thanks Michael. My system is calibrated at 75dbs and my subs, according to the rat shack spl meter, are 2-3dbs hot. My movie listening (again according to spl) is between 85 and 95dbs. So its above my reference abit.

But should still be well below reference level. -10db or so. (maybe -20 depending on if you are measuring bass peaks at 95 or 105db)

You will be fine. I don't know what sub you are running now - but for HT, SVS is an awesome choice. (I don't do much critical 2 channel listening so I can't really comment on their musicality - but I know for home theater they are great.)

When you calibrate your system at 75db you are playing a tone that is 30db below reference level. Reference level is (peaks mind you) of 105db from each channel and 115db from your sub.

Some movies are "hotter" than others, (dts vs dd plus some just mix their sound levels high or low) but you get the idea.

If you calibrate your system using video essentials to 75 db (when volume is set at 0db) you are calibrating to reference level. If you watch an average action movie in DD, and played it at -10db - you would have potential peaks from each channel at 95db and peaks from the subwoofer at 105db. (all calibrated from your seating position)

For reference sake, playing a movie at -10db has damn loud peaks, but the voices are VERY easy to hear. (even whispering)

the loudest I have gone for a movie is about -6db. (I did go to +5 db on one disk (fleetwood mac - the dance), but it is recorded very low) That was for a demo. -10 is about as loud as I will go for an entire movie and I actually watch most movies -15 to -20.

The plus line is better, but only you can say if it is good enough for you.

I would say the normal things like did you work on placement, what was the room like, etc, but if you got another sub, put it in the same place, and liked it more - that is really all that counts.
