For some reason my wife has short circuited after my talking about buying a new amp. I tried Jewelry but that did not seem to work.
I can't decide if I want to use the "FU" method (this has side effects) or something alittle more subdude.

I've never really had to deal with the WAF much. The only time she's ever frowned on me buying something was when money was tight, in which case I shouldn't have been looking to buy anyway and she was rightfully concerned...

My woman supports my addiction just fine.
She even went to the bank for me so I could buy our SVS.
She has not complained about the abondance of extra Polks lying around waiting for me to do something with.
I say if she doesn't give in with jewelry then it is time for the FU plan.
Just don't discuss it till after she notices.

She was simply trying to let you know that talking with her isn't needed for any future purchases, since she doesn't appreciate the need for the change. I say, get your buy on.

Do you have a job?
Do you pay for your share of things around the house?
If 'yes' and 'yes', buy whatever you want.

Tell her it's either the new amp, or a 21yr old girlfriend with breast implants.
Hope she goes for the amp cause the 21 yr old G/F has much higher maintenance costs. :p

I try to pretend that I, you know...wear the pants, and stuff. But sometimes you just need to make sure that the Wife Approval Rating is above at lease 50%. I talked about buying a new AVR for 2 months on e-bay and at one point she even said, "Why don't you just get a new one so you don't have to worry about the refurbished."....So, being that my Wife Approval Rating could use a boost, I bought the refurb thinking that it would look like I was making a sacrifice (meanwile, I know HK takes care of the refurb buyers).... Great plan eh?
So....I guess she was just kidding because I am still in the doghouse (three weeks or so later) from when she came home to see me setting up my lovely new AVR. Now she doesn't understand "what was wrong with the old one" (JVC).
I've made it through plenty of impulsive guy-stuff buys, so I'm not sure why my new audio addiction has cause issues.
...Ah what the hell, use the FU technique!!!!

I should say in her defense , we had twins a few months ago.
However, I think the new amp is on it's way to our house.

...uh..like, its on its way and it might as well stop by for a while since it will be in the neighborhood?
you will need the new amp to drown out the crying.

Ok, dude.... a GUY wrote that book. There is no way it can help in dealing with our chemically imbalanced wives (let's face it, they all are)
...sorry if I offended any chemically imbalanced wives out there...

masturbating and paying child support is no way to live your life son.
just holding that book in your hand for 10 minutes will give, even, you more than enough of everything you could possibly need to prevent that from ever happening.

Agreed.
However, masturbating most of the time, and occaisionally taking home sexually liberated (horny) women on Friday and Saturday nights can be pretty darn sweet.

Thanks, but I don't think I'm in danger of things going that far....maybe if I would have bought the AVR-7300, but not right now.
.....anyway...Are you trying to get me to join a cult or something???

this question revolves around whether l.ron carnegie can help the subject when he is engaged in activities that are not typically thought of as part of the traditional parental role.
the answer is yes. the main difference between the strategies employed will be that, instead of 10 minutes, he will hold the book in his hand for 9 minutes and 30 seconds followed by 30 seconds of holding whatever else in his hand he so chooses.

Yea, and his wife knew I was they type to buy stuff just to let someone borrow it too. At one time he had a set of HT speakers, a pre-pro, amplifiers and I don't know what all else that was supposedly mine. He ended up getting a job as my boss later so I guess it was a good thing I had a little restraint... :)

Ha, thats funny I am using this technique right now (thanks Tour and McLoki;) ). I also have a variation of this plan. I walk in with something new, cables are great for this, and plop them down right in front of her along with the receipt. When she gasps at the price I say don't worry I have 30 days to return this, I just wanted to hear them because some guys on the forum are arguing about it or saying how good it is. There I'm in and now have 30 days to either
a) lose the receipt
b) buy her something she wants
c) play stupid and just forget
d) convince her that there really is a difference and show her how the upgrade has changed our already wonderful life:rolleyes:

Originally my wife was broken to the fact of home theater all together, its just a TV why all the fuse and money.
So I just got a 26 inch LCD for the bedroom since the kids TV had lost its color and gave them the old bedroom one.The wife actually liked it, so I pushed it and got a 37 inch for the living room. That still wasnt a problem til the surround unit was wanted. Everyone she knew that had one was just a loud bunch of normal TV noise to her. So I ebayed a semi decent all in one Sony and got her a few movies she liked, went over well. Since she was sold on surround being more than just noise I asked for a better one, that was shot down fast. I said OK, then I'll guess I'll redo the Hot Rod since I'm kinda bored with it now. Knowing how much that ran the last time, well honey, dont go nuts and you can get a better surround if you keep control of costs.
Granted it isnt the best, but compared to one year ago a Onkyo TR-SX303, Samsung HD950, Scientific Atlanta HD-3250, 4 Polk R-15's,CS-200 center and a Accurian 125 watt sub is a whole lot better. Now will just let it lie awhile, go to a few car shows and later say, HUM, lets see should I get a set of Polk Towers or that intercooled blower system for the car. Hello POLK TOWERS!!

You could always start writing reviews for my e-zine. That way you'll have an automatic excuse except that writing is a volunteer effort.
In all truthfulness, under normal circumstances the wife and I take turns buying our toys from the normal budget. However, any $ I earn from selling off stuff on eBay is mine to do what I wish.

Be a Real Man. I did it too. I went out and Spent 8 Dollars for a New S Video Cable. When My wife Saw and Heard the Improvement, She was so Grateful.
So do like I did, Go Spend the Big Bucks and Tell her you did it For Her Enjoyment. Then Try Strutting around the house basking in your new found manhood.

johnADA good story, it's important to get as many people in the family involved in the home theater stuff as possible.
This makes upgrading easier.

You guys have completely missed it altogether....
You NEVER let them know how much money it is, they mostly think it is useless and really don't care anyway...
This is actually a play off of their shopping habits. My wife just thinks it is the same as her going to the home store for something we don't need "I found these cute hand towels for the hall bath then the other stuff didn't match but it was all on sale" and naturally as guys we buy far less things in the long run so they just think it is ok.
sorry for the rambling, prob edit this in the morn when completely sober...
