Has anyone ever tried using RG6 to send a digital audio signal?

Why? I am trying to connect a XM receiver in a south-facing room to a receiver in another part of the house. I have some existing RG6 connecting the two I could use for the purpose. I wonder if it would work?

It worked! I made a pair of RG6 male connector by RCA male patch cables and hooked it up. The digital signal is decoded by the receiver. Must be about 80 feet of RG6 with a splitter and two couplings.

RG6 has good core size and adequate shielding to handle long runs. Glad it worked out for you.
