What is your budget? What CD/DVD player (if any) do you have now?

I have a Yamaha DVD-2300 MKII. I bought is used for $300. This is a great player. You can buy these used for about $300.

Like Darla asked, how much is your budget? There's a lot of cheap and expensive players out there.

Sony or a panasonic

Panasonic does not do dts for some reason
Sony skips sometimes

It is time for a good DvD player for once.

I was just wondering if Yamaha is a good choice for music and movies.

I use the older oppo player for DVD's and absolutely could not be happier with the picture quality. To me it is THE BEST DVD player in its category for the money hands down. Now the new one is kinda untested so to say. I have not heared much on it but it is possible that it is just as good if not better than the old player that I have. The one thing you need to maker sure of about the player is that your display accepts either HDMI or DVI for the old player because other wise the picture can not be upconverted quite as well withought this hook-up on the back of the player being used. I am not suer if the new one can do upconversion via component cables but I believe I read that it can but don't take me to the bank on that. It is woth your time and money to check it out online.

I agree. Check out the Oppo and put the extra cash toward an HD thingamajiggie later.

Cambridge Audio DVD-87 DVD Player. A very good multi-format player for $270 ±. CA makes excellent gear. You can check it out at Audio Advisor.
