LSi25 Subwoofer Defective?

I just purchased LSi25's from Crutchfield. When I hooked them up, I was unable to get any sound out of the left-hand sub. I can hear it kick on when the sub power switch is set to both "on" and "auto", and I verified that the volume wasn't turned down. After testing by swapping the left and right connections, and the right sub still working fine but the left one still dead, I concluded that the left LSi25 sub is defective. Crutchfield is shipping a replacement. Does anyone else know of this happening?

I had the same problem with my left speaker (LSi25), also purchased from Crutchfield. They sent me a replacement speaker.

Now I've noticed that the heat sink of my left speaker is warmer than the right speaker. This is after the speakers have been idle overnight. I am not sure if this is a problem.

Well, Crutchfield has the LSi25 back-ordered with a 6-28 expected date, so I left the LSi25's hooked up with the subwoofers turned off. Today, just for the heck of it, I thought I'd try the left subwoofer again.....and after clicking the power switch between on-off-auto several (SEVERAL) times it kicked in. The problem seems to be in the switch itself. If I switch it to off, it takes alot of playing to get it to kick back on. To top it off, the right one briefly did the same thing today, but came right back after a couple of clicks.

Right now, I have both set to "auto", and I'm thinking that maybe if I leave them there and don't mess with them the subs will stay on. I'd hate to box the left one (the one I reported to Crutchfield) up and return it if this is just a switch problem inherent to the LSi25's.

What do you guys think?

Wait until Monday and call Polk CS and see what they tell you to do. They will be able to help you work out the matter, even if it means returning the speaker(s) to Crutchfield.

Dealing with the forum for a while, I haven't seen this particular problem mentioned in the past. There may be a bad batch of switches or amplifiers this go round.

Saturday AM update.......left sub dead again, can't resuscitate patient this time!

The sensing to the input of the amp seems to be the culprit. My left heat sink on Lsi 25 would sometimes be warm after sitting all night with no input. Other times it would be room temp. I suspected input line noise triggering the amp to stay on excessively, but it may have to do with polk's input level trip for the amp to turn on. Try turning up your source if it is convenient and seeing if the bass kicks in. Once it is on it will probably stay on while the music is playing.
Also are you using pre-amp output to the LFE input or just connecting to the speaker connections?
If you have the pre-outs hooked up make sure your speaker selection is small or your sub output is to BOTH mains and sub outputs.

I have only the speaker inputs connected, not the LFE input. Volume increase/decrease didn't make any difference.

At any rate, the replacement arrived from Crutchfield Friday, and works perfectly!
