The Mavs destroyed the Heat in the 1st games and today's game 3. I'm really excited about this - I would like to see the Mavs take this in 4!!! I'm not really a Mav fan but they're playing awesome basketball and I would like to see them win. Also, since I'm a huge Pistons fan, I would like to see the Heat lose :D

Who is supporting who in these NBA finals???

Miami Heat --

If only because I'm of the opinion that one should support the conference/division of their favorite team (in my case, the Atlanta Hawks:o :o )

I've always done this in every sport.

That being said, the Heat look outclassed, outmanned, and overwhelmed.
I know the NBA is streaky, but this is going to take nothing short of a miracle.

Got to go with Dirk and the Mavs.

Mavs and the Stars are the only local teams I have an interest in. I don't follow baseball at all and basketball only on the playoff time if SA or Dallas is playing. I love football but the 'boys are at the bottom of my list of who I want to see succeed in the NFL.

I totally support you and have been a strong supporter of the Eastern Conference teams until now - and only because they beat the Pistons. This is revenge time!

You're right...
it was like the NBA playoffs were enjoying a spike in popularity not seen since the mid-90's, and then hit a brick wall...

which doesn't make too much sense since both teams come from very large markets and play a flashy, entertaining and accessible brand of basketball

The playoffs were great to watch, and I want the Heat to win only because of the hometown connection to Dwayne Wade, but I don't see that happening.

No, just do not like the Cowboys. Maybe it's because I liked Bruce Smith and co. ;)

Adding TO in the mix doesn't help. He isn't exactly a charming personality but as long as he doesn't open his mouth he's not that bad.

Where's the "Who Cares" choice?

heiney9
06-14-2006, 12:53 AM
"Who Cares" NBA basketball is about as exciting as watching grass grow. Shaq couldn't play in his prime and he can't play in his twilight. Since the Jordan era ended basketball has gone down hill as well as most organized sports. The only one left that is even a shadow of itself is Mens and Womens professional tennis and even that is lackluster these days in comparison to the Everet/Navratolova/Graf/ McEnroe/Borg/Connors/Sampras/Agassi era.

Agree Demiurge, he was/is a tool. I remember how many times he trash talked about the Bulls (I understand it's all a part of the game) but not once did he deliver on his talk. Atleast if you are going to talk trash consistently you should back it up once in awhile :D .

A good player in his time? That's a stretch. He could play periods of good defense, but he will forever be a nameless player among the mediocre when his time in basketball is done.

I tried watching last night. I really don't recognize the sport anymore. Apperently D-Wade can run over guys like a RB over a LB in the hole and its a foul on the other guy. THe star treatment is ridicolous.

I don't know if they got complacent, so much as Wade took over
and for what its worth, Shaq hitting those free-throws was clutch (at least by his standards)

Dallas should have challenged Wade on their offensi drives since he already had 5 fouls. Drive to the basket and force him to take 6th or take the basket because he's scared of fouling out. They didn't, instead they just made stupid turnovers when the win was their to take, easily. Wade did play great though, but that wasn't the main reason Dallas lost.

I didn't notice that but it continues to amaze me with what Shaq gets away with. I rarely follow basketball but ever since his matchup with Mutombo in the finals I have noticed it everytime I see him play. Well, not on game 2 where he was invisible but now that he played a decent game it was obvious again.

Wade is not that big of a problem for Dallas even with the game he had yesterday, they just need to stop shooting themselves in the foot.

I suppose. I've always thought of Mourning as a cry baby. He certainly earned the ring. I still don't like him or his attitude, but I suppose I'm 51% happy he got the big prize.

H9

I'm with you H9....

I was originally pulling for Miami. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there really wasn't anyone on the Heat who I had anything invested in. Mourning's always been somewhat brooding and unlikable. O'Neal (who I think is a generally nice person) has his rings. Payton is a whining sour-puss. Antoine Walker is a dope with delusions of grandeur. Jason Williams is Jason Williams. And now it turns out that reports are coming out of the locker room, concerning Dwayne Wade's "new personality" -- think Kobe Bryant plus 1.

Sure, they were underdogs and more importantly for me, they were from the Eastern conference. But I'm not really happy for any of them, with the possible exception of Shaq....
just my 2 cents
and congratulations to Heat fans

Actually, I've never cared for any of the Georgetown players. I just respect Zo for coming back. Not very many people can/could/would come back after that type of surgery. Takes alot of heart/balls to do so.

Believe me, it's hearsay.... and my impression of Wade is of a humble individual. He certainly keeps his teammates involved, and gives credit to many around him when interviewed. It's just hard not to be jaded in the Kobe era. Remember how "contrite" and "affable" everyone thought Bryant was early in his career? Times change... and more importantly, success and money change players.

Again, I'm taking these morning show accusations concerning Wade with a grain of salt. My contention was mostly with the rest of the Miami squad.

You do realize this was the CHAMPIONSHIP, right? EVERY sport has at least some kind of trophy presentation to the winner of the championship, whether it's in front of the home crowd or not. Think about it - Stanley Cup, Lombardi Trophy (even the divisional championships in the NFL have ceremonies), World Series.... all on-field ceremonies, home or away, for the champion. It's been that way for a long time, if not forever.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but MLB usually presents the trophy in the locker room. Yes, the celebrations occur on the field. But out of respect for the home crowd, baseball has allowed this ritual to be viewed by the public, but in its proper place. Trust me, I've been to two deciding game fives at Turner Field in Atlanta, and in no way did I (or anyone else) care to hear the opposing team's victory speeches.
If the public wants to hear it, then they can -- on their television or on the radio.

Huh...it's always been this way in Basketball and I am sure in Hockey as well. Can't think of all the other sports. Usually the fans weren't a bunch of uptight asshats that they couldn't be gracious in their teams loss.

Also, it's the NBA that handles the ceremonies, not the winning team. Take your issue up with the NBA instead of blaming it on the Miami Heat.

It's the presenting of the championship trophies and it's always been this way.

Correct me if I'M wrong, but they don't lock the gates and force you to watch the ceremony. It takes place significantly long after the end of the game that you can get your whiney ass out of the stadium / arena / park before they insult your delicate sensibilities with their celebration. Stanley cup is on the ice and typically the fans (If the visiting teams when) stay and aplaud both teams efforts. When the Avs won in Jersey, the arena stayed packed for the entire presentation, even some of the Devils came back/into the stands to congradulate the winners. Hockey fans seem to be fans of the game first. Maybe soemthing to think about...

The booing, I think, was directed at David Stern for the fines he hit Dirk And Mark Cuban with for the actions after game (the basketball punt into the stands and Cubans comments about officials).
I have been a Miami fan since Rice & Hardaway. It looked bad at first, but I am glad for the Heat, and D-Wade especially. I think GP and Zo deserve rings as well for the years they served in the NBA. Most of all, Shaq getting a ring without "The Mighty Kobe" is priceless. So many people say bad things about Shaq, but when he was in L.A., he was the Savior. Now they have only bad things to say about him. He does his job and I am glad to see him win again. I felt that walking off the court was very un-sportsman like of the Mavericks. Just my 2 cents.

Congrats on your Heat landry:) I've always liked Shaq and think he's gotten a bad rap over the years. Even considering some "questionable moves" in the paint....

I really like it when players that have served their time are finally rewarded.
I wish Stockton and Malone had gotten their's. And Ewing and Barkley....
hell, I really wish Dominque Wilkins had gotten a ring....

As for Shaq winning without Kobe -- with the garbage Bryant's thrown his way, this has got to be pretty satisfying for O'Neal.

I think everyone named in that statement deserved a ring, especially Stockton and Malone. Karl came close, but the Mighty Bulls were just too much for them.

I don't care for Kobe, but he is pound for pound the best on the court, (Bar none). He is also a ball hog, but when you got the skills he has, You get the green light to shoot as much as you want to. He showed me a lot in the play-offs this year.

Any truth about Big Ben Wallace may be heading to L.A.????? If so, Detroit may be in trouble.
