Now that the current generation systems are almost at the end of their cycle, what do you consider the best games of this generation(ps2, xbox, and gamecube)?

My top 3 games of this generation are:

3. resident evil 4- gamecube
2. Halo- xbox
1. Metroid Prime- gamecube

These 3 games I feel are one of the most original games of this generation and thats why they are on the top of my list.

Metroid Prime gets my vote for most original and immersive....

but I probably spent the most time playing Frequency, Viewtiful Joe, the Silent Hill games and (gulp) Wario Ware

PS2:
God of War
Shadow of the Colossus
Guitar Hero
Metal Gear Solid 2/3
Resident Evil 4

GC:
Super Smash Bros
Resident Evil Zero

Xbox:
Halo/2
Forza Motorsport
Fable

Xbox/PS2/PC:
Silent Hill 2
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

I am sure there are more that I have left out and the list would be longer if the next-gen were involved but we will leave that for a later thread. :)

Guitar Hero, without question

it's been years since I've had that much fun playing a video game (I'm 36)

The Gran Turismo series are also great

Gran Turismo
Grand Theft Auto Series
Rainbow Six Series

Halo is probably one of the worst games ever made, IMO. I also know I am way in the minority on that one. I just see it as complete repetative drivel. I'm not a sci-fi guy, though -- so maybe that's why...

You aren't alone, I don't either, I've played it before, I like Time Splitters 2 far better, and that doesn't have the extravagent claims that it is revolutionary. Every man to his own though.

1) Metroid Prime
2) Wind Waker
3) DDR (I'm a sucker)

everyone has their opinions. Like I think the PS2 is one of the worst video game systems of all time. The system, controller and the games felt like a replica of the ps1 with better graphics. I had it for about a year then sold it. GTA 3 and MGS 2 are the only games I really enjoyed on the system.

the 360 is fun but if feels like an xbox game with better graphics. I remember when I went from playing super mario world to super mario 64, how much different and fun it was. Everything now is the same thing with better graphics. I just hope nintendo's new system will change that for me.

I agree with some of you how Halo can be repetitive. But the first time I played first halo, it felt like something completely original to me, the single player and the multiplayer. Then Halo 2 came around and if it wasn't for the online multiplayer, I probably wouldn't have played it after beating it. Originality is really running thin these days.

Did it all man, couldn't even get into it on card night when we had a bunch of people over. I'd rather play Rainbow 6 multi-player. It's probably the sci-fi factor that turns me off.

I hear ya. It can get real frustrating online too since you have to compensate for the lag and lead the other players a fair amount. To each his own. :D Have you tried Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter?

Yeah, I own that one for the 360.

As for my personal choices:

PS2: Devil May Cry (like it slightly better then 3): I loved this game because of its fast gameplay, enjoyable plot with cool videos, and Dante’s attitude.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: there is so much you can do in this game, I thought the characters all felt very real, and I just get really sucked into this game.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance: I love the legacy of Kain series and thought this was a nice end to everything. Filled in a lot, I love playing as both Kain and Raziel, and playing each side of the battle between them was great.

Best game no one played: Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner: Fast paced mech action! No one I know has played this game, but I absolutely love it. From the graphics to the plot I thought it was stellar. I have played through this one more then any other game I own (except FF7). Plus I picked it up for $4.99 in a bargain bin when I worked at CC, best $5.24 I ever spent.

GameCube: Metroid Prime: I for one did not think this game would be nearly as good as it was, I thought the switch to first person would kill this series. This game is addictive and very absorbing, I get into sucked into this game, I am Samus Aran (minus the whole being female thing). On a more serious note, this game looks and sound spectacular, is very intuitive, and has some great boss battles,

Eternal Darkness: Very unique psychological game, the plot and atmosphere was really where this game was at. Very scary at times, the more insane you became the more crazy $hit happened. I love running through a hallway and suddenly your body begins to fall apart, or blood begins dripping from the ceilings. A very involving game which lets you play as roughly 10 different characters and tells a story over a 2000 year span.

Resident Evil 4: no intro needed, this game looked, sounded, and played outstandingly. I played through this four times, and played through all the mini games, I just love the atmosphere, the enemies, the weapons, everything! The level of realism was phenomenal, and Leon getting his head lopped was exquisitely grotesque. Feels different then the other five resident evils that I have played, but a good kind of different, A must have for anyone who owns a gamecube.

Best game none played: Red Faction 2: I loved this game, it had a decent plot, enjoyable characters, but overall it was fast action and you could blow up and through tons of objects. This game had lots of fun guns, rewards you for blowing your own path through levels, and has addicting gameplay.

XBOX: Black: I am not a huge fan of FPS but this one was just intense. Everything was so real in the game, especially the sound of the guns and the explosions, this is one game where I would bob and weave when being shot at. On hard it was pretty challenging, especially the final battle scene at the bottom of the stairs. I did enjoy the plot and the way it was portrayed, but the gameplay was really where this one shined.

Halo 2: I did like Halo but Halo 2 did everything better, and more. This game is great to play alone and even more fun to play with co-op. The Halo canon is amazing and very intriguing, I enjoyed the plot and twists much more in this game then the first, not to mention the improved graphics. Duel wielding is great, but the light sword is even better. Overall a great game.

Silent Hill 2: This game looked and played better then I expected, and was quite the experience. This game was quite disturbing on many levels, not only this but I actually jumped a few times at points in this game, rare indeed. This game is very deep, has disturbing enemies, and is very psychological.

Best game no one played: Indigo Prophecy: This is not as much a game as it is a interactive story. Depending on your choices (the scene where the kid falls in the water had a big impact on me) the games future is different, to a degree. Each time playing through I learned more about the characters and the plot then the time before, and enjoyed it that much more. This game is all about the plot, the gameplay involved is mainly running around, and hitting button sequences. Overall a very engaging story and characters I really felt for.

That game was surprisingly very good. I wasn't even aware for a while that it was available on consoles for the longest time. Over in Europe it was called Fahrentheit.
