RTi70 grill mod:

Okay, so this is a ghetto mod, but it sounds to me like it makes a little differance. Besides, it is easy to remove, and isn't visible (unless you remove the grill).

While listening to music, I removed the grill from one of my RTi70s, and noticed that the tweeter sounded clearer. So I looked at the grill, and noticed this plastic lip in arch going around the tweeter area. Thinking that this may be causing some undesirable reflections. I went into my junk drawer, found some 1/8" x 3/4" foam weather stripping, and lined the lip on the grill with it (see attached picture). I then carefully slipped the grill down and onto the speaker (to not squish the weather stripping), and pushed it in to seat it.

ghetto or not it appears to be a clean way in altering the diffusion characteristics of the speaker.

How critical of a before and after have you done?

Now that is a good question. I did it on a lark 2 weeks ago, so it wasn't a planned listen to what it sounds like, before and after. My general impression was that the highs were a little clearer, a little less harsh/edgy, and possibly a tick less.

But, my setup may not be the best to guage what most people would hear. I sit too close to the speakers among other things, making me overly sensative to the tweeters. I have been running for the past 6 months, using my channel equalizers to somewhat squash the highs.
